Promoter Vladimir Khryunov said he hopes to arrange for Kharitonov a duel against Manuel Charr, the WBA world heavyweight champion.
“I suggested to Manuel Charr to fight Sergey Kharitonov on September 6 on the day of the city of Khimki. We are expecting an answer on Monday, "Khryunov told TASS.
Charr has not entered the ring since November 2017, when he won his current title by beating Russian Alexander Ustinov on points. Charr was subsequently convicted of using two anabolic steroids, which led to the cancellation of his mandatory defense against Fres Oquendo. Despite the doping scandal and prolonged downtime, the WBA does not deprive the native of Lebanon of the championship belt.
Earlier, Khryunov announced that on September 6, in Khimki, Kharitonov would hold a 10-round duel against ex-contender for the world heavyweight title Kevin Johnson.
