When does it get challenging?
I started a barbarian for season 6 and have just been doing the campaign on hard(highest i can go at the moment or I would go higher). Just started act 5 and almost 57 and the game just bores me to death. I don't think I've even changed my slot skills since level 20ish because i feel overpowered as it is with the ones I selected. And one of my legendary rings spawns up to 4 little goblins that just kills anything in sight with one hit(yes even those bosses that are supposed to be somewhat challenging).
Also played a demon hunter for season 5 and couldn't stand how easy it was and how brainless you have to be to play that class.
well you are playing basically on the baby settings. i don't recall when it lets you boost the levels once you beat the game once i think. then you can go into T levels. if you goto the highest ones right away you will be nuked. you must slowly move up them as you find gear.
with that said i don't i don't think it ever gets hard. you will prolly die more but the ai doesn't get harder. you just take more damage so you have to avoid shit more. you prolly will kill slower also for a while so you will take more damage from that also. but nothing gets hard. it is just bigger hp numbers. the goal is to make ti so you make the highest levels as easy as it is for you right now. then you hit rifts to see how far you can push it. it's more gear checks than hard
It gets hard when you up the difficulty enough. You kill slow but some stuff can one shot you. Certain combos of elite suffixes will destroy you also. Playing hardcore like that is super fun. Even soft core is fun, it definitely isn't just "more hp so it takes longer"

please tell me what becomes harder other than bigger hp pools and damage. the ai doesn't change. the demons still drop crap on the floor you have to avoid. it is nothing but gear checks. if you are getting 1 shot your do not have high enough gear.
a good base. you do 300k damage on t1. for every 100k more damage you are up a t level.
you need the def stats also but this is just a base to work from. you are not being fooled or tricked in anyways you just have the gear for the level or you don't. there is honestly nothing harder
hardcore is a different beast. while the game itself is not harder outside factors make it harder. you no longer have a buffer for failures. net farts can kill you. but at no point does the ai change and the mobs fight different. it is the same at all levels just bigger hp ahd damage numbers
Around level 60 greater rifts is where it gets real.

Play on difficult hardcore setting if you want a challenge.
I haven't played in awhile. But I was around 400 paragon levels, playing hardcore. The max torment levels were very challenging and made you pay for being complacent.

You don't have to go this crazy.
Greater Rifts will crush your balls when you get to a high enough level of them.
Will make Torment X seem like a cake walk.

Yeah, I just find it a little disingenuous when I see someone say the game isn't difficult when you can make it as hard as you want. Too a point of absurdly difficult.

you can't make it as hard as you want. i wouldn't call anything about diablo hard. you can change the settings so you will die more and will kill more slowly. but it doesn't become harder.the ai never changes. the damage numbers and hp go up. thats it. nothing gets harder, it is just gear checks. get more gear and you walk on it again.i hate how games act like raising some lil numbers in a code is the same as making it harder. give the ai better moves, give it skills to adjust to your actions. to me the games are being disingenuous when they just raise numbers and act like it is something.
I don't get what you're trying to say. Do a grift 75 compared to 70. Is it harder? Yes of course. Just because it's the same mechanics and only the damage is increased doesn't negate this fact. You just want a different type of difficulty.
