FRAT warning
At the South Bay BJJ tournament this weekend, Kemo's Fight Factory (Lancaster, CA) put an 18 year old into the 14 year old white belt division using a false name. The kid that was suppose to compete sprained his wrist the week before so the owner had his son go in his stead and signed in under the original kid's name. The problem is, the owner's son is actually 18, not 14, and was competing against 14 year olds and the division is for kids only.
Also, the officials at the tourney didn't do their job and check the kid's ID when he checked in. How do I know all this to be true? Simple, the school I train at is comprised of members that used to be part of Kemo's Fight Factory and when the head BJJ instructor left to a new school some of us went with him to the new school. The 14 year old that was suppose to compete was training with us at the new school and the owners of the new school paid for his registration fees. However, some drama went down with him and the old school owners and they basically bullied him into not training at our school. So we all know the kid who was suppose to compete and also know the kid who replaced him. When we tried to tell the officials that this happening, they asked the kid for ID (which they should've done in the first place) but he couldn't produce any. They let him compete anyway. So some blame falls on the officials at the tournament.
The sad part is the kid won his first match essentially eliminating a real 14 year old from placement and proceeded to get dominated his next two matches. Also I left the kids' names out to protect them since they are being manipulated by adults who should have more honor and know better.
Herb15E - FRAT warningYikes. What scumbags. You should post this in the BJJ forum.

will do as well, thanks.
The fact that he eventually got dominated by 2 kids that ware much younger almost makes it worth it...lol.
yeah it was some retribution, but i feel bad for the first kid he fought
That really blows. I think I went against a sand-bagging white belt my first tournament. He beat the first guy with a flying armbar, tried a flying armbar on me and immediately took my back on defense and tapped me with a RNC and then pulled guard and I think triangled the guy in the final match.
Afterward, I went over to him, noticed he was probably 40 years old (not a big deal, since it was the adult division and I was 24, but for him to be so awesome at that age seemed weird).
I was like, "Dude, you're awesome! How long have you been training?" And he gave me a sketched out look and was like, "Six months."
At the time, I didn't even consider that he might be a blue belt or more, I was like, "Six months?! Holy shit, man!" and he just kinda nodded and looked away and shut the hell up.
