UFC officials on Thursday added another fight to its first offering on FX, pitting Kamal Shalorus against Russian prospect Khabib Nurmagomedov for UFC on FX 1 on Jan. 20 in Nashville.

“Undefeated Russian fighter Khabib Nurmagomedov has verbally agreed to make his UFCdebut against powerful wrestler Kamal ‘Prince of Persia’ Shalorus Jan. 20 in Nashville,” said UFC president Dana White.

Following a strong stint in the WEC, Shalorus (7-1-2) is still searching for his first win in the Octagon. He suffered the only loss of his career at the hands of Jim Miller at UFC 128, earlier this year, losing by TKO stoppage.

MMA fighters today should pray MMA does not become popular in Dagestan, because then it will be like wrestling: 80% of the world / olympic champs are from Dagestan, and many at age 22/23. 



Trained in many places in the world, but I have to say no place I've seen has as much natural talent as in D. Kids at 14 that never touched weights look like 25 year old man that have lifted for 10 years.

While I agree with the level of wrestling in Dagestan, I don't think Khabib's wrestling is somehow spectacular compared to the guys he will face in the UFC LW div.

He might be a legit badass, but the quality of his competition renders his pretty record meaningless.

While I agree with the level of wrestling in Dagestan, I don't think Khabib's wrestling is somehow spectacular compared to the guys he will face in the UFC LW div.


 I think that was his point, Habib isn't a high level wrestling product by Dagestan standards. We haven't seen those guys really get into MMA yet. Dagestan also has some of the best Sanda (San Shou) athletes in the world; those guys are already making the switch to MMA
