Is it just me, or does Ken Shamrock decidedly NOT belong in the UFC Hall of Fame? I would rather see Frank Shamrock in the Hall of Fame.
I dont think he belongs in it
He deserves to be there and I didn't like Shamrock before it was cool not to like him.
Frank deserves it a lot more, but you will certainly not see him in there as long as he keeps calling uncle Dana nasty names...
"Mr. Ettish is there..."
???
Ken never won a UFC Ken never even finished second. He had the 3 worst fights in UFC history with Royce Oleg and Severn and quit in every other tourney yet he is in the Hall. WHAT A J O K E!!!!!!!!!!
I say yes, because I count pancrase as MMA (it's close enough IMO).
I think Ettish was just there to sign autographs. Fred's a cool dude, but putting him in the hall of fame for taking a nasty beating by a mediocre fighter like a man would be a little much IMO...
Carpet Lion, if I remember correctly, they weren't voted upon, just invited by the UFC as legends of the event. I think it was some kind of anniversary.
I think there's been only 4. Royce Gracie, Ken Shamrock, Dan Severn, and Randy Couture.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again: I am NOT a fan of Ken Shamrock, but he does deserve his spot in the UFC Hall of Fame.
He was one of the few experienced MMAers in the early UFCs, was the first American ever seen performing submissions in the Octagon, had a physicality and personality that made him marketable much more so than even Royce, and (for better or for worse) tried to fit the role of spokesman for MMA when the politicians first turned against the sport. He was the first Superfight champion, and while it can be argued that the Superfight title was created just so that the popular Shamrock could hold a title without winning a tourney, the fact remains that he WAS popular enough to warrant such a move...and the modern UFC heavyweight title traces its lineage back to Ken's Superfight belt.
I'm not a fan of Ken's, but I have to give him his due: he deserves his spot in the HoF.
"it's not called the Hall of Athletic Accomplishment, or the Hall of Champions. It's called the Hall of Fame. Arguably Ken Shamrock's name widely recognized enough to warrant being in there."
Never thought of it that way, but you do have a point. Hey, maybe Fred Ettish has a shot after all...
He belongs he put the UFC on the map.He was the first one to beat Gracie. We all seen that fight and know he won it.Ken is a animal. We see him at 42 not in his 20s when he was a beast. He is kind of like MJ past his prime but he still gave it a run.
Are Ken's pure accomplishments in the UFC overshadowed by his popularity and hype? Absolutely. Do Ken's pure accomplishments in the UFC make him worthy of hall of fame status? Absolutely. And without a doubt, Ken has brought more money and exposure to the UFC than any other fighter by a very wide margin. We all owe the guy a huge debt of gratutude, not constant bashing. That's why I always stick up for the dude on here.
A lot of good points for Ken being included in H of F, but what about the ridiculous super fight he had with Severn. It was a 30-minute feeling out. That was a disgrace. How do you get past that?
^^^^^^
Hold on now. Soccer you're right. But hockey???
That Severn-Ken "bout" WAS a disgrace. It's ultimate FIGHTING, not dancing. Both guys are two blame. In Pride they would been yellow carded out of a purse. They'd ought the fans money!!
It'a tribute to Ken's drive and charisma that he has overcome some not so great moments.
Carpet Lion the Anniversary you are wondering about was the UFC 10th Anniversary show at UFC 45 Revolution ufc 10th anniversary they had a fan vote on the internet and in the middle of the show the UFC fighters that fans voted on were announced in order that they placed in the vote it was like 1 through 10 with Randy Couture being the fans choice at #1,Ken Shamrock and Royce Gracie,Tank Abbott,Don Frye among others were there on hand for the event.Dan Severn was'nt there i think he was fighting or getting ready to fight or something.Anyway before and after the UFC Legends signed autographs and took pictures it was pretty cool,Tank Abbott Vs Cabbage was a highlight cause Tank, Cabbage and their corners almost got into a brawl after their fight ended.
embarrassment to the UFC
