I'm not a GSP fan at all but I hate Shields. I will enjoy the beating GSP is going to give him. I hope he kicks Shields like he jabbed Kos.
I seem to remember GSP being on his back for periods against Fitch, Alves, Koscheck, and even Dan Hardy. Is it that hard to imagine in a 5 round fight, Shields taking him down?
Say he gets him down. Does anyone really think GSP has the guard to stop Jake passing? It will be a knife through butter. Do we really know how GSP reacts to a powerful grappler getting mount on him and raining down punches?
Shields has a better shot than the likes of Jon Fitch, who has no way to finish and would have to fight a perfect fight for 5 rounds. Shields might only need one chance.

I think that Sheilds can and will take GSP down, but that's about it. I don't think he can finish him, and I don't think he can control him long enough to ge a decision.

Shields' striking is brutal, so I would actually pick GSP to knock him out. I don't think Shields will be able to get takedowns either, because of how bad his striking is. It will be hard for him to get inside.
It blew my mind that Kos came in to this fight wanting to defend TDs and bang. I was certain he would make this a wrestling match. That is what Shields will do. He will go in looking for takedowns.
So it will be a different fight. GSP will win it.

People go on about Shields striking, but the difference between him and the likes of Koscheck and Fitch is Jake knows it. He's not going to stand around and eat jabs for 5 rounds. Jake will fight with a single minded determination to get the fight to the ground.
It may take 10 attempts, but he will keep coming and coming until he gets it, or he gets taken out.
GSP's striking and wrestling are fucking light years ahead of shields and GSP is WAYYYYY too strong for him.

Unless we want to see GSP doing rematches from now on, they have to bring in people like Shields to fight him.

The fight may have went to decision, but it wasn't even close.
Shields is too slow, and no fear of the standup means GSP sprawl and brawls the crap out of him. He couldnt sub Kampman and had to battle to get him down but vs GSP he will? I dont see it. I think GSP would get the finish in this one.
Its not that Shields is a bad opponent, its that a one dimensional fighter isn't the kind of fighter that can beat GSP. He will eat Shields alive.
A "one dimensional fighter" is exactly the kind that will beat GSP, a specialist. Be it in striking or grappling. Jake is a top position specialist and if he finds a way to get GSP on his back, he'll show it.
Will GSP really open up knowing Jake wants to take him down? I don't think GSP would want to be on his back against that kind of top game.
The same top game from the Kampmann fight? I felt right after that fight that GSP would dominate Jake. After last night even more so. Better cardio, pace, striking, wrestling, overall speed, gameplan,etc. Not saying he has no chance of course but I cant see it .
