Spoke to several people today chasing this story down and here's the whole ordeal laid out by the North Carolina Boxing Authority, plus the Shine matchmaker has resigned.

Thanks for putting it all together.

any idea what "Different percentages" means in regards to those guys getting paid? I doubt Joe Schmo on the undercard had a guaranteed percentage in his contract. This is the first time I have ever seen an event that did not staff a doctor. They seem like some rookies over there. Also, noone bothered to check the wording of Mayorga's contract? Really?

I've talked to a few people today who said that different commissions have different requirements as far as the doctors go. Some states provide the doctor, other states require it of the promotion.

As far as the percentages go, Karen Bryant, who was there for the broadcast, tweeted on Saturday night that the fighters were getting 25% of their purse, and then later said that different fighters were getting different amounts. My sources today said that some fighters had contracts that specifically noted things like that so the amounts can be different as far as what they'll actually be paid.

They also HAD to know they needed the purse money in escrow before the event started. Doctor and that escrow account are promoter 101. What are these guys doing that they were not prepared for this? I think there's some more investigation to be done imo. How did such an inept company land Mayorga?

i have to think this was more money driven than 'safety'.

I just don't believe the doc was the issue.

well that escrow would have forced cancellation even if they had a doctor. I refuse to believe any mma promotion would not be clear on who provided the medical. All that said, the escrow money has to be in place before the AC will allow anyone to fight. That rule has been around forever and has cancelled shows before. There is only one person to blame for that and it is the promotion. You are allowed up to 2 hours before the fights to have it in place, but noone waits untilt he last minute. These guys had to know they were not going to clear the funds before the show started. Banks work m-f 9-5. They knew they would not have the money in place. I want to see what they knew and when they knew it. Still seems pretty shady

If this was the case, the UG would never have a "Will fighter X get paid?" thread. Sadly, I've seen many, the most recent one being the epic Doo Doo Brown thread.
