Should fighters be paid redundancy?

I know most think fighters should be paid more in general but I feel sorry for the guys cut after a string of losses.

Prize fighting can be a tough thankless career when you think about it.

No.  They should just be paid more than lthey currently are while their fighting. Especially those that have been around for a while

Do you get paid for not being sufficiently good at your job to the point your contract is terminated? No?  Neither do I.

Redundancy = severance package just in case someone didn't know

I don't think it's that easy.

They are prize fighters. We are 9-5 office workers or the like that can have careers spanning decades without degrading our bodies and leaving with essentially no qualifications.

I dunno, maybe it's from watching TUF redemption and hearing about these guys getting cut. They usually fight because they have hard upbringings, don't know how to do anything else then have a bad run and get cut. It's sad

No, they shouldn't. They should have health insurance and a pension though.

Legalize It - Redundancy = severance package just in case someone didn't know

Thank you, I didn't know. I couldn't make sense of the title, and was going to research how that word applied in the context. I was actually thinking OP meant pay them after they're gone (royalties).

I don't think so. It's a career choice that comes with very little upside. Hopefully one weighs out the choice prior to committing to it.

I don't work in fast food, because the ceiling on that job is generally far lower than what I want. And look at the millions the big fast food owners take in. Fighting is generally equal or close to what fast food employees make. Perhaps worse depending on benefits. I just don't see the argument for pay them more or give them redundancy. So long as it's above minimum wage, I don't see any problem with the pay.

Once they've made it to the pinnacle of MMA, i.e. the UFC, they should be paid for the rest of their lives like the president of the US.

hahahaha.

Yes this is in line with how many feel on the topic. It makes no difference to me how much they make (amateurs often times put on the most exciting performances) so long as they're willing to sign up for the pay and perform their duties. I also don't mind if they make hundreds of millions, if someone's willing to pay it.

Contractors aren't entitled to redundancy.

^^ that's why they should be paid more per fight.

I think they put more on the line than most and seem to hurt pretty bad when it's over. A nice little pay pack could ease the pain.

I wasnt aware of the pension though

Maybe pay them like a US soldier?

No. Only CM Punk should make real money, because he's a real fighter.

That's between them and their boss.

This is a business relationship, no one cares about thanks.

Money.

This! Cm punk is the only multi time world champion and tag team champion, guy has earned his paycheck.

You just can't get him off of your mind. It's strange.

Whatever you think he is, try not to forget that he's infinitely richer than you and his wife is dope.

He probably can't even imagine what it's like to sit on here for 1 year.. let alone 11 years and post 80000+ things that don't matter, at all.

I'd say so, what's the point of a contract when the employer can choose to toss it whenever they want.

No they are independent contractors. They are offered a contract and in most cases the opportunity to attempt to negotiate better terms but redundancy and pensions supplied the ufc is ridiculous.

I do strongly believe they should be paid alot more per fight and I can see a case for them to paid a retainer on a weekly or monthly basis due to the contracts forbidding them from applying their trade for any other organisations while under contract but redundancies and retirement funds are their responsibility, they only need to be paid enough to allow for it
