Should POTUS have to be vetted by FBI before

Accepting the nomination?

it seems strange that there is no vetting process to run for president... except the campaign itself.

all of the prominent positions at the White House need to be vetted by the FBI to be granted security clearances... but the POTUS doesn’t go through the same process.

But should they?

Absolutely fucking not

Who vetting the FBI?

You might as have well just ask the DNC to vett the new president in the last election based on what we know now about the FBI internal workings.

Are you slow - no fucking way! FBI director is a politics appointee - by the president.  You don’t see a major bias issue with putting the FBI in charge of vetting nominees? Like maybe if you get a solid challenger to the sitting president that magically the challenger doesn’t survive the vetting process.

Look at what the democrats did to one of their own in a primary - you really think an FBI beholden to Hillary Clinton for example would be above this tomfoolery.

Democrats on here have no problem with a former director of the FBI being in charge of investigating a President whose supposed offense involves the FBI itself and another former director LOL...No conflict there at all.

1st. I don’t believe trump colluded with anyone to win the presidency

I also don’t think what he did with the playmate and the porn star should matter.

However, the fact that he paid them to not talk about it means he has something to hide and was essentially blackmailed by these women for their silence.

Now what happens when the next president has something worse to hide?

Shouldn’t the voters know that there is nothing in a candidates past that could potentially compromise them or leave them open to blackmail.

That kinda cancells out every presidential nominee ever

If the people want to make a Russian agent the President of the United States, that is their right.

Yes — clearly.

I’m not a US citizen... I’m asking IF the POTUS should have to be vetted before accepting the nomination. To stop what might be a potential disaster in the future.

I don’t believe trump is compromised... but maybe next time you all won’t be so lucky

How else could we determine that a potential POTUS was born in Kenya and was a Muslim masquerading as a Christian?

Now we have a guy having whores piss on objects in front of a Kremlin live-stream at the helm.

Come on!

This whole thing first came up when Obama was  said to have been born in Kenya and all of the other kooky conspiracy stuff that went along with it. At the time I thought it wouldn’t be a bad idea, but there’d be virtually no way to guarantee a fair and proper vetting process. And the only vetting that should take place would be what the Constitution calls for in requirements to be POTUS, which is being a naturalized U.S. citizen and be at least 35 years old. So really this has never been an issue or needed, even though people tried to stir that shit up with Obama.

How about the sort of background check that any U.S. citizen would undergo when seeking a position that requires handling classified materials and the like? Our constitution pre-dates our system of security clearances by quite a long time...

That’s what I was getting at.

I understand that the president can unclassify anything... but if he had any other position in the White House I doubt he could get a security clearance

Like...

what if Muhammed Bin Pedo won the DNC nomination and was the favorite to win. Maybe you guys would get on board with a background check? Don’t want to learn that he was visiting Afghan  for late night dance orgies back in the day once he’s already shaping foreign policy, aye?

So the government is going to tell the people who’s on their approved list of possible candidates?

The government determines who gets a security clearance - are these people comprised in some way - susceptible  to blackmail etc.

In a way the government already puts restrictions on who can be president

Some sort of agency would run a background check on the candidates — yes. Again — if Muhammed Bin Pedo wins the DNC nomination, we probably want to know if he was fucking kids in Afghanistan, if he might be an ISI agent, and so on.

I’m not even sure I understand the basis for an argument against a background check on a potential POTUS.

From what the other posters are commenting

1. what agency isn’t biased that you could trust the findings.

2. Do we want agencies digging into candidates histories? What about their right to privacy

3. It’s unconstitutional
