I don't think so...
Title fights should be seven rounds.
Whitaker and Romero fought 5 rounds to a split decision, and fans can’t agree on whether it was a win for either or a draw. If anything, more time was needed!
Also, fighting should be a test of your attributes, endurance and ability to manage energy should be tested. Whether that is with extra rounds or length of rounds being longer. The test should be greater at championship level. It also adds a layer to strategy, if you’re more conditioned, you might want to drag the fight into the later rounds, if you’re not, try and stop them early at the risk of being gassed in later rounds if you can’t finish them.
If anything, I would rather have them keep the 3 and 5 round format, but have judges be open to using more 10-10 rounds and having a sudden death 4th/6th round if it’s a draw.
Rambled on but hopefully it makes sense. Also, no wonder Chael wants to reduce rounds, he tapped to Silva in the 5th!

Chael also loss to paulo filho in last round after pummeling him. He could have been WEC and UFC champ if fights were only 3 rounds. Maybe sour grapes.
But what about his points:
-More time, more damage to fighters
-More time, higher chance champ loses
Meh I dont think it matters, 3 rounds or 5. most fighters really cant go for 5 rounds, and lets be honest the most rare time to finish a fight is in round 4-5 because you are tired and your punches lack the same pop as earlier and your sweatier and more apt to wriggle out of submissions. so i dont disagree with chael, but personally the ufc needs 5 round fights for main events otherwise there is little to differentiate the headlining bout from the rest of the card, because lets be honest the names of the fighters are not doing that nor is the promotion. If you could put one more killer fight on a card by keeping them all 3 rounds, it has my vote, but given the unpredictable nature of a fight card its probably best ot stay where it is.
However I would totally be in favor of a Sudden Death round for anything that isnt a UD.

He did make the point about the SuperBowl not having extended time. One of the most closely related sports to MMA is boxing, where 12 round fights are used for belts or high level matches. Glory Kickboxing uses 5x3 rounds for championships and 3x3 round for regular fights. In freestyle wrestling, the USA use a best-of-three format in the finals of the World and Olympic team trials to work out who is the best wrestler (granted, the Worlds and Olympics have one off matches).
Whereas fighters will suffer more damage with extra time, I haven’t got the statistics but barring injury, most UFC fighters are fighting 2-4 times a year, maybe 2 or 3 times for champions, so more damage isn’t necessarily messing with recovering to fight again. Damages and injuries can also occur in training just like they can in the cage.
More time may mean a higher chance of the champ losing, but all that means is that they are no longer the champion and their opponent was the better fighter on the night. It is better than before they implemented the 5 round main event rule, which meant the challenger went into a title fight at a significant disadvantage as they may not have had experience in fighting 5 rounds like the champion did.

That wasn’t the last round, when Chael got finished by Filho. I think maybe his first fight with Anderson is the only time he lost in the 5th round.
How about a two minute rest between rounds 3 and 4? No one wants to see two completely drained fighters who are unable to finish. Give that little extra break.
Keep things the way they are.

Chaels argument comes from his perspective. He has said before he would also like the rounds to be 3 mins. If there are fewer rounds and fewer time in those rounds, the wrestler( chael) has the advantage.

Agree
He just wants to Angle that under current rules he beat Anderson
Should be like Lethwei, big KO or opponent submission to win or it's a draw.

This. Chaels a dope.
