It seems to me they could have him in the following UFC with no problem, he did a minutes worth of work and took no damage. Why not reboot him and knock one of the weaker fights off the upcoming cards?
yes
..next question?
Signed.
Yeah, give him an easy fight like Machida or Nogueira.
Who would be ready for UFC 118? Any 'top contenders'? They could take Sakara/Harris off the main card for Bones.
the length of the fight really isn't the issue or the damage taken. Injuries sustained in a fight can lay a guy up for a while, however the real issue is the training camp jones went through for Matyushenko.
A dude trains balls-out with hard sparring for 8-12 weeks every day and his body gets exhausted. you can't jump back into another camp right away without some serious consequences.
this is why thai boxers and amateur boxers can have hundreds of fights. they dont have the same kinds of long camps before fights. They train regularly and fight regularly. Training camps are devastating to your body.
As entertaining as Bones is, I couldn't disagree more with you, Abe.
Jones's next opponent needs to be at the next level. I would love to see him and Thiago Silva lock horns in the cage. Regardless of whoever it is, Jones needs a full eight to ten week training camp to prepare.
Rushing Jones back to the cage, unprepared for the sake of another potentially exciting fight could result in his first lose, a bad ko or an unnecessary injury.
As gifted as he is, I only watch to watch him when he's prepared and at his full potential.
put him against someone for the austin fight night.
i want to see him v. diabate
who cares if diabate will get taken down and abused. i just want to see those 2 spider limbed freaks in the ring together.
The Swinging Richard - As entertaining as Bones is, I couldn't disagree more with you, Abe.Yea, we disagree here. UFC 118 may be too soon but I think letting a fighter sit who's still primed for a fight because he didn't get one is a waste. Instead of needing 3-4 months why not 2 months? That's plenty of time to prepare for someone new when you're still in shape. He may not want to do it, but guys like Koscheck don't like any downtime at all. I don't think we should only see Bones one more time this year.

I never thought of this one.
A very good idea.
Jones obviously trains hard and studies his opponents, that takes time. give him the time he and his camp feel they need. He's going to be the champ soon enough at this pace. his next fight should be a number 1 contender match, and then a title shot.
He should fight in November again.
WoundedKnee -
Why would you rush a young gifted fighter without a proper training camp? He loses and then what?
ABE FROMAN -To be fair, maybe I read too much into your post. The Swinging Richard - As entertaining as Bones is, I couldn't disagree more with you, Abe.Yea, we disagree here. I want to see Jones have a very long career and I think rushing into fights could potentially hurt his longevity. Don't take my statement as an accusation that these aren't your wishes as well, fren.
If Jones's next opponent is on the next level of competition and Jones doesn't have a proper training camp, for whatever reason, and he loses ... then what? Would we collectively cry foul as he was rushed to take a fight because he wasn't banged up in his previous fight or will people say his abilities were all hype anyways? Just too many questions.
After his performance last night against a tough Janitor, Bones's next opponent should be a legitimate test to gauge where he's really at in the division.
Jones has been hyped enough and has proven he has legitimate talent, it's time to drop him in some of the deeper waters of the LHW division to see how well he swims.
The guy doesn't look human!!!!
I'm on the Frate Train.....
I bet they at least run the possibility past him.
I'd guess only he and his trainers truly know if it's a good idea. Some guys like to fight often, others want/need a longer camp.
No matter what - it's time for him to fight someone in the top 5-6. I'd suggest Thiago Silva or mini-Nog.
LMAO @ "If he dies... HE DIES!"!!!
Bumbaclot - Groom him up Tyson style imo. A fight every 2 months.
This dude is the biggest prodigy since a young Mike imo
He is taking 0 damage and just wrecking fools. Contenders. Give him Forrest. Thiago. Rashad. Machida. ANYONE!
He's the most physically gifted athlete in MMA. Period.
And just like Iron Mike, the minute someone gets him out of his comfort zone (read: on his back), he will bite there ears off and get cuaght with a bunch of hookers and blow in a Laughlin, NV motel room.
he is good, but has he been tested AT ALL yet? Nope.
Besides, there is something about fighters who claim all the time that god is guiding them toward destroying other fighters. Reaks of bullshit to me.
And finally, if Rashad wins the LHW strap back, we will NEVER see Jones fight him. They are fellow Jackson nipple tweakers. Dana will have to threaten to cut someone to make that shit happen.
Trust me, its all coming:
-the ear biting
-the hookers and blow
-the crying of no teamate fighting
he is good, but has he been tested AT ALL yet? Nope.
Brandon Vera and The Janitor aren't tests? Those guys are legit and Bones took them out quick.
Abe, I understand your reference about Koscheck.
I'm a big Josh Koscheck fan.
Josh is a killer and seems to love getting in the cage to test himself as often as possible.
But Josh has a significant amount of experience over Jones. When Koscheck was fighting his way through Chis Leben on TUF season 1, Jon was an 18 year old senior in high school. While Jones was an athletic stud who became a state wrestling champ, he was still obviously a kid. Josh fought some really tough guys in next three years ... before Jones even had his first pro fight.
It's easy to forget Jon just turned 23 last month.
Jones would probably fight anyone and I'm only referencing the difference in experience to highlight where these two are currently at in their careers. Jones is going to need more preparation at this stage in the game than would be needed for someone like Josh Koshcheck.
Would you rather see Jones fight Thiago Silva at UFC 120 or the loser of Machida and Jackson? Or what about Wandy when he returns?
