Signed with UFC but fight in other organizations?

Just wondering if there are any instances where Dana has allowed fighters that are in the UFC to fight in other organizations while still signed with the UFC? Phone Post 3.0

As far as I know they only offered that to cyborg when they bought strikeforce. She turned it down obviously. Phone Post 3.0

I recall Danny Downes being under contract when the UFC purchased WEC but he was given permission to take a fight outside of the UFC before his debut since they just acquired a shit tonne of LW's at the time and it was going to be a while between fights. Worked out for him as he won, but with a loss it's likely he could have been cut.

Also, Joe Doerksen signed as a late replacement to fight Lawlor back at UFC 113. He was still under contract to fight for CFC in Canada the next month so the UFC allowed him to honour that contract and go fight there. He also won and came back to the UFC for his next fight.

Zuffa owned StrikeForce at the time, but Ed Herman went and fought Jacare in StrikeForce.

They probably would have been more likely to do it if Pride didn't back out on the Chuck deal after they sent him over there.

GSP. Had two UFC wins, lost to Matt Hughes, and UFC let him fight for RFO or Rage or whatever it's called b/c they still had GSP under contract for one fight. While GSP was contracted to fight for UFC, he also had a prior contract which UFC didn't buy out but instead UFC had a simple risk of letting GSP fight his final contract and if he lost....oh well, GSP had already lost to Hughes anyways. If GSP won(he did), he was released from his contract and was exclusive to UFC.
