1) size matters.
gsp will continue to train during his off time but has no reason to stay at a certain weight with no fight coming.
Gsp has always said he would need the proper amount of time to bulk up without rushing it.
2) no divisions held up.
Unlike before we won't see either division put on hold while the two set up the epic match.
3) no pressure.
With no titles to muddy the picture neither man really loses anything with a loss, silva will be almost 40 and coming off a broken leg, gsp will have taken on a goat in a higher weight class.
4) revitalized divisions.
Both 170 and 185 feel more fresh than they have in years now that the goats are gone but you can guarantee the winner of this would be up for a huge payday if they challenged whoever the top dog was at that time.
5) massive draw for the sport.
6) $$$
Agreed. Now is the perfect time logistically. Still would have rather seen it around 2010-2011.
why would gsp come out of retirement to take a fight he never really wanted vs the guy whos aura is now... uh... cracked ?

This fight would be huge.

The Rogers Centre or Havelange Stadium were Silva vs Sonnen 2 was meant to take place but the UN cancelled it. Bastards.
ranier wolfcastle -This doesn't make sense to me either. I would rather see Silva vs Jones. I have no interest in silva vs GSP.

There was a point in time where he not only wanted it, but called it his goal in MMA...
Plus there is the fact it would be both of thier biggest paydays in the sport, right at the tail end of thier careers.

If you seriously voted someone down for posting thier opinion like this you are a moran.
VTFU to rainer to balance out the retardation.

UFC doesn't deserve GSP fighting another second for them regardless of how much money can be made and all of OP's very fair points as to why this fight now makes more sense. UFC bit the hand that fed them in GSP, and unless a serious public apology comes forward, no way should GSP ever give the UFC such a potentially lucrative match up.
Is this post related to the conspiracy that the UFC stole GSP's belt?
If not, what is it that is making you post this? What did the UFC do that was so terrible to Georgey poo?
It's the only fight that really makes sense for either one. Winner could help cement his legacy of greatest p4p and then retire on a high note. Neither appear to have long in the sport so another title run is likely out of the picture and would only causes headaches if they vacated the title. While several years late it's a match that a lot still want to see and something GSP should consider given Anderson's tarnish aura now.

I think the fight has come back up at the perfect time.
2 years ago Anderson would have knocked GSP out, Now its an open question.
Yes, yes you are. I know you know that we spell it wrong here on purpose, as this is not your first nor your only account here. This one just hasn't been banned yet. Moran.
^^^^LMFAO you actually believed that BS story about his belt? Hahahah
ChrisWeidmanLEGitWon -Gsp would have no reason to take that fight ... An silva jones is so out the windowranier wolfcastle -This doesn't make sense to me either. I would rather see Silva vs Jones. I have no interest in silva vs GSP.

FETT_GayFerPayNINJA -This is my first and only account here genius, what you got to say about that? Sorry I'm not sad enough to have almost 25000 posts in 3 years (and no vote ups lol) but you know some people don't spend every waking moment talking shit on forums.

Sure it is pal.
while this may be a big money fight for GSP, it's not a big legacy fight. If he loses, he tarnishes his reputation significantly, but if he wins, he only beats an over-the-hill guy on a two fight losing streak (that's not how I view Anderson, and personally think he's still an amazing fighter and would give GSP huge problems).
It only makes sense for GSP if Anderson comes back, beats a Jacare or a Bisping first.

Im fact, it may raise his legacy in the eyes of many hatdcore fans for him having the balls to step up.
If he wins he certainly raises his legacy another notch.
