I am Jewish and I believe the above could be true. A group of Jews could have fled Egypt to try and reach Israel.

All of the other stuff in the story, particularly the parting of the Red Sea,  are fairy tales.

Sorry that’s where your opinion doesn’t seem to make sense. Your proof is rooted the 5 Books of Moses, the written Torah.

You discard the wonders that were performed by G-d to take the Jewish people out slavery but you hold true to the fact that that the Jews were in fact slaves in Egypt.

All of this information is only detailed in the Torah.

You cannot disregard one and while holding other.

Passover isn't about people 3000 years ago leaving Egypt, it is about you leaving Egypt.

This is also true.

Wasn't the Red Sea story explained by some shallow tide area that is actually passable during certain times of the year? That would definitely look like a magician's trick if he led them along a shallow crossing that no one knew about.

I hadn't heard that before, but I guess that could have happened and then the story was embellished over time.

Still there are many parts of the Passover story that are absolutely impossible.

You run any story through google translate 3 times and  you'll get parts that seem impossible. IMO nothing magical happened, but the stories could all be derived from real, embellished events.

Oy Vey!!!

Dom, I believe in the long illustrious history of the Jewish people--which is in itself miraculous. And you know I am a very strong supporter of Israel and Jews.

But I don't believe those magical things happened. I respect your right to believe they did.

How dare any of you say that Jewish people are capable of lying about something. I said that here and one time and within an hour I had 20 people telling me I was a Nazi.

Archeologists have yet to find a single bit of evidence, pottery with Hebrew on it, etc in Egypt or the Sinia dating to when the Biblical story of Exodous happened. There is no physical evidence of 500,000 people showing up in any city near there after a long dessert walk.

So, besides a story oddly similar to other religions' Exodous stories, it appears that the Passover didn't actually happen. It's Jewish myth (like the global flood story).

Not to be a cynic, but where does that leave us in the day and age of discovery?  They found the Arc, the garden of Eden, tower of Babel, how Gimora fell and all kinds of things. But not Jew slaves in Egypt.

How edgey! Congrats on your degree in YouTube archeology.

Ty :)

And congrats on not looking into or questioning anything spiritual

Do you think Jews lie more than other people?

For sure.

I just want to work through the idea.

Why is there a Jewish people?

What seperates Jewish people from non Jewish people?

Who says your Jewish?

How do you know there is such a place as Israel?

How do you know it belongs to the Jewish people?

The sole source of all of this material comes from the written and oral Torah which was given by G-D to the Jewish people at Mount Sinai after he redeemed us from Egypt.

600,000 grown men experienced the giving of the Torah and proceeded to pass down the experience and the holy teachingsfrom Father to Son for 3,000 years.

That’s why you are here.

Thats how’s you know you are a Jew.

Happy Passover :)

There are many things in the bible that are true.

I believe there was a historical Jesus... but I don’t believe he walked on water. Or was a god or a son of god

Funfact: Outsidse of the killing of the first born, you can explain all the other plagues and parting of the reed sea with non-supernatural explanations.

What made Moses impressive was his ability to say “X is going to happen.” And it would then happen.

Just wondering why there are exactly 0 Hebrew artifacts to be found and what that means. Bitching about being butthurt... Hello, OG

It helps if they'd bother to look in the right places...where and when the Biblical text claims events to have been.

Here is hard evidence from critical scholars yo consider...

Just having some fun here...how do you know evidence hasn’t been found and not suppressed? It’s not like Egypt wouldn’t have a reason to cover up any evidence found for either political or religious reasons.

From an archeological standpoint, you are asking why there isn’t evidence of an event that happened 3450 years ago. In an area that has been consistently populated since then and is a crossroads for multiple groups, invasions, etc... Evidence of a small group of people who’d have pissed off their hosts. The chronology and logistical numbers presented in the Bible are like all such numbers from history: widely exaggerated.

Now, did the incident happen according to the biblical story? Probably not. The theory I read that sounds plausible is that there was a group of Hebrews in Egypt that left, joined another group of Hebrews in Canaan and then moved into what would become Israel. There are three Pharaohs credited with kicking out “hated foreigners”. One of those might have booted out Hebrews. There’s also Akehnaton. He was a pharaoh who became a sun worshipper and demanded a new city be built fast with mud brick(the shit the Hebrews made in the story). Akehnaton wasn’t well liked by Egyptians and things went to shit when he ruled. It’d make sense that Hebrews could come in as workers to build this new city, shit hits the fan and they grab their stuff and run for it.

There’s a few theories as to such an event being important to the Hebrews but being just another group of foreigners pissing off to the Egyptians. It would be like pikeys visiting a National Park near you and then fucking off. Something important happen to them when they were there? Super. I wish they’d have cleaned up after themselves.
