Six Sigma Green and Black belts re:Testing model

As part of DMAIC Testing phase -

what is the model?

How many different testers should there be?

In my company, we are debating Dev doing both unit and component integration testing vs. Dev doing unit tests, SA/BA
s doing component tests...... then QA doing systems integration tests, and finally line of business doing user acceptance tests

.

nvm. better answer in my next post

It looks to me like you're trying to cut down the time a unit takes to get from point A to point B. And all the hand offs are slowing things down.

One consideration for the existing model might be layers of accountability. So keep that in mind. Another may be that you're dealing with something that is sensitive in nature, or can expose your company unnecessarily if left to the few, as opposed to the many.

Assuming you've already created your SIPOC, I would focus on the existing Process step. Create a Value Stream map, using the appropriate icons to demonstrate unit movement, delays, decision points, inventory points (like work queues), etc. Determine how much delay is present in the existing model.

Have you already done that?

Little bit of topic here.. But I'm considering writing my master thesis with a large medicinal company using six sigma..

How is job opportunities if you are good at using six sigma? I know my ex gf's was working at MSD as one of the lead six sigma guys in Europe and he was making a lot of money.. Phone Post

I appreciate the response, but i looking for a reply to my exact question.

I had one manager tell me the company standards model is DEV>SA>QA>LOB...

a new manager is telling me that THAT is not the model..it should be DEV>DEV>QA>LOB

a third manger said it should be DEV>DIFFERENT DEV>QA>LOB

So, manager 1 and 3 are saying 2nd set of eyes should be doing component integration testing, they just different on which team should be responsible.

Manager 3 added "CIT testing w/different eyes are part of DMAIC/6 sigma"

You ex g/f was a guy and he's making money?

Anyway. 6 sigma was developed at motorola (who last i checked was in big financial trouble)... there arent that many companies using it as their SDLC

I dont know any company in particular that has a specific 6 sigma governance board... its something a company adopts and expects you to learn and follow. My company uses it, and we had to take a cursory 1 hour course on it, but it wasnt mandatory we know it... maybe PM's or above may need to be certified.... then again, I'm DEV, so I'm really only responsible for a few steps in the waterfall

For a company that knows and values 6S, you should be making at least 20% more than me if all other things are equal, with the exception being that you are a blackbelt and I'm not.

Personally, I'd go the consultant route and rake in even more.

Sig Sigma is retarded

The larger companies that have implemented it have either trailed or dropped out of the S&P 500.

IMO, it's decent for fixing existing processes, but totally stifles creativity and ineffective for coming up with new processes or products.

I got my green belt from Caterpillar in July or 2007. They are STILL paying well into the 6 figures for SixSigma black belts to run projects... its fucking crazy. And its a shit system IMO. Complete waste of money.... "but the Japanese blah blah blah!"

As for the OP... no clue what youre talking about.

I've been a developer for 30 years, contracting most of that time, including motorola, where it was created. Been in 100 shops, most fortune 500. I've made over 6 figures for 20 years.

and i fucking said PM's and above might need to know it, but its not a requirement for anyone under that level where i work.

As a matter of fact, when i was at motorola, i did a gap analysis between 6 sigma, and another companies SDLC - waterfall vs tollgate..same shit....

anyway..fucking motorola didnt even require that i fucking know 6 sigma

how about someone answering the actual question please

I wish I could help you man.

We gave up on Six Sigma here back around 2000 when we noticed people were spending more time doing paperwork than their jobs.

And the only one making more money were consultants.

If I can find my old materials I'll see if I can help.
