Something happened at one point at the end that made him withdraw from engagement and just cover up. Anyone know?
I read him and Yancy went to the hospital. Not much help, but that’s all I’ve seen.
Something was wrong for sure, when he got up before the end his head was bobbling around, he was stumbling back. Body hit the wall maybe? It was a tough fight.

Yeah, the fight was brutal to their bodies and brains. I just found the immediate change in Alex very shocking.
Same thing that happened to Rory in the Lawlor fight. Oliveira broke his nose very very early in the fight. Fought savagely like his life depended on it, but that nose trauma eventually overcomes you and your body starts to almost go into shock when your endorphins start to come down. Your body starts to shut down on you.

This comparison doesn’t make sense. Rory was finished immediately after GS nose was shattered. Cowboy fought 2.5 rounds with the broken nose. He didn’t stop fight
He didn’t stop fighting because the broken nose “caught up to him”. Something else happened that we’re not certain of yet
Ok... Maybe it was all the unanswered strikes, the big uppercut, the big hooks and the big knee that he ate after being completely exhausted?

But the timing doesn’t fit. He was in top control of Yancy for a while, Yancy escaped, and when they were back on their feet, that’s when he basically retreated and covered up.
At first I thought maybe he torqued his core in the grappling and popped a previous rib injury, or something. I thought it had to been something that was hard to spot that happened just then.
Something happened to him. It was before he was backing up towards the fence. Rogan tried to get the editing guys to do a replay but they are too stupid.
It really frustrated me when they did not do the replay of the moment before they went to the cage fence. It is what I pay for when watching the UFC and you would think they would manage a replay and an explanation. But nope. We were just left hanging.

Wrong. Rory broke his nose in the second round and it was a cumulative effect from there. It’s very possible that oliveira was in too much pain from it. You’ve clearly never had a broken nose or you would know how painful they can be, especially if you continue to get punched for two rounds after.
My guess is he got hit again on the broken nose and it finished him. What a fight!
Badass fight. Major respect to both.
