So many of you UFC supporters (and Joe Rogan) side with the UFC 'coz you feel Helwani shouldn't have popped the news about Brock (possibly messing up their own promotion) and also feel the UFC is a private company that has the right to deny Helwani press credentials.
Fine.
What about the UFC coming down on Helwani (via Fox) because of his discussion with Rory Macdonald about free agency?
Not the same as the Brock story, right? Looks like journalism to me! Very news-worthy, no? It's an issue that affects the fighters, the sport and more...
Yet, he got punished for it. He was working for Fox but it was through the UFC, and they had the power over his job.
This is part of the Helwani/UFC story too, but everyone's focusing on the Brock story (even Rogan).
big daddy yum yums - I like Ariel but i think he's pushin buttons just to see how far he could take it... an he found out...either way i always like his stories an mma hour.....
I think Ariel has always come across as a guy who likes to push buttons for a reaction and see how far he can push the boundaries, often times for no real reason other than the response itself and the attention it gets. Not just with the UFC but certain fighters he's interviewed as well and to be honest, it's paid off to a certain degree. The idea that Any publicity is good publicity has made him probably the best known MMA journalist in the game. While it may have cost him his UFC press pass, he'll still have the same insiders giving him the scoops he had before and even without FOX as a platform, he's well known enough and has proven enough accuracy to be his own platform.
I had no problem with Ariel breaking any story he wants. He has a right to do anything to get more viewers/listeners to his reporting.
I also had no problem with the way the UFC handled it. They also have a right to make decisions based on how they feel their business should be run. If they don't want Ariel given press credentials that is their right.
And finally, I also didn't have a problem with the press putting pressure on the UFC as well. Everyone can make their own decisions and deal with the consequences of them.
Nobody here is wrong but they should be prepared to deal with any results that come from their decisions imo.
