So why isn't Conor fighting Ferguson?

ConorWinsTheRematch -
SlipSlap -

Because Ferg could put a serious, bloody beat down on Conor and the UFC knows this. They want to give him the “safest” fight possible. Granted there are no easy fights, especially at lightweight, but the UFC will want to distance themselves from having their #1 cash cow lose a fight where he’s getting slashed up by elbows, running away bleeding before getting TKOd.

If Cerrone fights smart, he gets Conor to the ground where he can put his highly underrated ground/sub game on display.

If pillow fists Pettis can almost finish Tony, then you and I both know what Conor can and would do to Tony. Tony has bad feet, poor balance, and leaps into exchanges with uppercuts upright, chin high. Everyone knows thats a Conor countering clinic waiting to happen. Theres a very real possibility that Conor would beat Tony worse then he beat Alvarez.

I'm going to be honest, Conor vs Tony for the real belt is the fight I wanted. I have no idea why the UFC keeps trying to hide and protect Tony from Conor. Tony is tailor made to get counter fucked by Conor. I actually dont like the Cerrone match at all. Because if Conor took Cerrone lightly and lost, that would be devestating. Let's hope there is a long term plan here, and that if/when Conor beats Cerrone, that that leads to Conor vs Tony.

Khabib says he won't fight until November, so best case scenario is, Conor beats Cerrone in April, fights and beats Tony in July/August for the real belt, and then that sets up Conor's huge redemption rematch for the big news years card. Conor said he was going to be very active this year, so let's hope for all of that, because that's what's best. Conor can potentially go 3-0 while beating both Tony and Khabib. I recall that in the year Conor beat both Mendes and Aldo, Conor went 4-0 that year, so another big year like that is due for Conor, and 2109 seems to be Conor's year

Ol day drinkin dons going to tune him up.. Fight will go to the ground.. McTapper will surface, and he'll tap cowboys arm like a prostitute getting drowned in a toilet bowl..

Conor is currently the #2 ranked LW

and  Khabib will be out a year.

Why the fuck is this guy targeting Cerrone, 3-4 in his last 7 fights? And not the "next in line" like he said?

You might want to double check Conor’s ranking he’s rankes 4th and that very generous

Champion : Khabib Nurmagomedov

1Tony Ferguson

2Conor McGregor

3Dustin Poirier

4Al Iaquinta

5Kevin Lee

6Edson Barboza

7Justin Gaethje

8Anthony Pettis

9Donald Cerrone

Cerrone/Conor will be a great fight, I don’t see what OP is complaining about. I’d be happy to see Conor fight anyone in that top 10 tbh.

He’s coming off a loss where he got dominated, maybe having to beat another top 10 guy before getting a title shot makes sense.

Why would the #2 ranked not fight the #1 ranked fighter for a title shot?

Since when does the #2 rank fight a #9 ranked fighter after losing to a champ?

McGregor is being babied by his fans who are desperate to see him win at all costs, even against a guy who is 3-4 in his last 7 fights.

Scared to death of Tony.

It was funny I actually saw Conor in the back at the weigh-ins," said Ferguson. He was strutting up, doing his thing and I could see his shadow. I looked over my shoulder and he has stopped in his tracks. I saw fear. I saw the biggest fear ever. He forgot for a split second - the same way I saw him over at [Floyd] Mayweather, when he was over at the presser - when I saw that, he doesn't want a piece of me. Management will make sure that I don't ever touch that guy because I'll make that dude mince meat. I'll chop that dude up and feed him to the dogs. Then you got Khabib; he's a game opponent; a real fighter. I don't know about that B.S. that happened afterwards but emotions flare inside there.

You're a dumbass if you think they matchmake purely off rankings. Saying Cerrone has lost "4 of his last 7" sounds wonderful for your argument, but if you were being even half objective you would realise he's won 3 of his last 4 and looked pretty damn good in the process. That division is also so stacked that matching up any of those guys in the top 10 is a bonafide damn good fight.

But anyway, continue your anti-Conor bitch fest.

Yeah cuz like Cerrone is totally a bigger draw than a interim title shot with Ferg.

More like Conor doesn't want to get his ass kicked and embarrassed again.

Ferg makes a mess of Conor and does it easily .

Ferg makes a mess of Conor and does it easily .

I’m not sure Tony beats Cowboy.

Cowboy has better stand up and is his equal on the ground.

Conor will not fight anybody that has a chance of beating him. Not unless the deck is stacked in his favour.

He’s been hiding behind the “He’s not a money fight” for a long time as an excuse to hand pick his opponents.

So you haven’t heard of a guy named Khabib, huh? You should watch mma, it’s fun.

And that’s one of 4 loses on his record. Hmmmm…those must not count, huh?

And how about bumping all the Mendes is going to destroy him threads, and the Aldo is going to KO him threads and the Eddie Alvarez is a stylistic nightmare threads.

You noobs weren’t trolling during those fight, huh?

Ferg should be fighting Khabib.

Why should he fight Conor?

He was the interim title holder and was stripped.

Having him fight for a interim title he already held makes no sense.

This.

The guy hasn’t lost a fight since 2012 and has finished 8 fights in his 11 fight win streak he’s riding.

No matter what you think about him he’s been passed over for far too long. I am a pretty big Tony fan, and while I think fights with Dustin or Conor would be awesome to watch, I think Tony’s earned the right to wait for Khabib.

I doubt it will actually play out that way though.

Side note I’ve always wanted to see Tony vs Dustin hit the floor because they were the first two fighters to have multiple wins via darce choke in the UFC.

I do have to admit a fight with Conor is scary as a Tony fan. I honestly don’t know how I’d predict it. I think it could be like you say where Tony could end up getting starched worse than Alvarez did. At the same time if Tony’s chin can hold up and if he can pressure Conor for a couple of rounds, I think he could pressure Conor into shooting in order to catch a darce/guillotine/anaconda off the sprawl.

One thing I’ve never seen mentioned is that it doesn’t help Tony that Dillon Danis’ (Conor’s jiu-jitsu coach) best technique is that same darce/guillotine/anaconda ‘triple threat’ front headlock series. If anyone can help Conor prep to defend that style it’s Danis.

I still think Tony vs Conor would be a fun fight to watch and could go to either man.

Sadly, I do think Conor/Cerrone is a bigger draw than Conor/Tony.

I’m one of Tony’s biggest fans but I think a fight with Cowboy could do at least as much numbers wise. Cowboy is a beloved figure among die hard fans, is fairly well known by casual fans, and even somewhat known (if only by name or his appearances on JRE) by people that just glance at the sport while channel surfing.

The hardcore fans would rather see Conor vs Tony I would assume, but I wouldn’t be mad at Conor vs Cowboy. I’d rather see Tony wait for Khabib or fight Poirier if he has to fight someone else before Khabib.

Conor vs Cowboy is a guaranteed barn burner for the fans, and it’s a winnable fight for either guy. It’d also be nice to see Cowboy get a huge payday. Although that’s hardly a reason to book a fight, there’s no question that the guy deserves it.

LMAO at thinking this guy has anything for the best counter puncher/striker/boxer in MMA. Tony is the only fighter who Pettis has ever dropped with hands lmao. Love this deluded little fairytale Conor haters have convinced themselves of. You Are the laughing stock of this forum dong johnson/mysterio, you blatant nujob. No one here gives a shit about you or anything that you have to say. Realise that. Let me say it again for you. Anyone who knows fighting knows Tony is tailor made to get countered by Conor. The UFC has been blatantly hiding and protecting Tony from Conor. Couldn't be any more obvious.

Conor is the one who wants to fight Cowboy.

Sorry to burst your fantasy land but Tony Ferguson has called out mancrush MANY times and Conor is scared shitless to even respond.

He wants to fight someone who is ranked #9 because he doesn't believe in himself anymore.

For you to say the UFC is protectiong Tony from Conor shows how batshit insane you are. Nutjob.

uhm, cowboy called out conor in the cage during his post fght interview

Conor does not want to fight him and will not fight him

Ferguson is not a star, has no belt, and is way too dangerous
