Soccer was the passion of Brazil, UFC taking over

So the UFC is taking over soccer in Brazil, figuratively. That makes sense...

congratulations youre quite the grammar queen

dont let me stop you though, lets hang on and ridicule every word he said in a second language and completely ignore the point hes trying to make

he doesn't have a point, that would be like you saying you made more money this month than last month, so you're overtaking Mark Zuckerberg. It's not a point it's a joke...

he does have a point and the point is the sport is growing tremendously and continues to grow, he might not have used the right choice of words but knowing english is his second language i cut him some slack

and i seriously doubt that 99% of people in rio wouldnt recognize ANY brazilian mma fighter... if youre going to call people out for hyperbole you shouldnt engage in it yourself

its scary how much the sport has exploded since ufc rio. the media are really pushing it out there. anderson silva, vitor and nog are becomming household names. anderson was no.2 brazilian sports man of the year behind neymar. serious the country is full of noobs now its funny.

Jons Forsberg - only a fool can believe MMA is capable of surpassing soccer in Brazil or worldwide. Soccer fans are bonded with their home teams in ways that they'd never relate to an individual athlete, there is simply no way around this. You can't simply offer a more exciting sport and expect people to jump ship.

Regardless of if it is or not, it's his opinion.  I don't know, I don't live in Brazil.  I thought Vitor did well.  He was very well spoken.  He works for the UFC, what is he supposed to say?  To me he sounds like he's being very professional.  IMHO, any pro should big up whatever show they are supposed fight in.  I think it's part of the package.  We're on a forum talking about what he said right now.  I think it's F'ing awesome!  I think he get's it.

No chance ever. FFS the guys here have their football team patches on their gi's!!
I havnt seen one 'UFC' patch yet!!!!

soccer will become the number one sport in the united states long before MMA becomes the number one sport anywhere

Football (soccer to americans) is by FAR the biggest sport on earth, MMA will never get close to it. Fuck i love MMA but lets get real here. The reason you hear people like DFW saying MMA will be the biggest sport in the world is because they are simply clueless about the size of football. In the UK ALONE you get 1 million people a WEEK going to watch football.

Even F1 is probably bigger than MMA in Brazil. MMA is getting popular for sure in Brazil. Even my Brazilian in-law family like watching UFC. Phone Post

A million? There are only 20 big teams who play each other every week so that's 10 big matches with 35k stadiums so it's around 350k for the big teams then you might have another 10 mid teams with 25k stadiums so that's 250k so we're talking 600k a week max. In brazil only big rivalry matches sell out so way less people watching. Phone Post

There are 140 leagues in England with 460 divisions and over 7,000 clubs. A million a week is fair.

Yeah your wrong on this one. There are a lot of teams and a lot of  leagues, I would imagine soccer gets a million spectators comfortably in the UK and more than likely more or the same in Brazil and a shit load of other countries

Lol. If anyone is wondering, no, UFC is not "taking over" soccer.

I love MMA but no.

Nail of the head. I love MMA, but there is absolutely no way MMA can ever come close to giving me anything that approximates the relationship I have with my football club. It's night and day. MMA is entertainment, but football clubs are an important part of people's lives.

You are way off. The football season runs for approx 40 weeks and between the Premier League and the Championship (the top two leagues in England) there are roughly 25 million total spectators a year. I'm pretty sure that figure excludes cups and European games. So over 500k people attend the top two leagues in England per week. Add the two other professional leagues in England, the 4 Leagues in Scotland, the leagues in Wales and the hundreds if not thousands of semi-pro and amateur leagues throughout the UK and a million spectators a week is a very, very conservative estimate.

And that is the UK alone.

MMA will never, ever come close to even touching football in terms of size, and BLAF waffling otherwise is fucking embarrassing.
