The topic of Shamrock's bare knuckle event came up so I looked at Sokoudjou's record. Forgot he fought in the UFC. Man, he has fought in all the major promotions. Who else has? He fought
Don’t know if I’ve seen another fighter hit all the biggest promotions like that without missing a couple. ACA would be the only somewhat big promotion of the past twenty years he has not had a fight in. Hell the guy even fought in Venator. YAMMA and EliteXC are the only ones missing.
He fought in all the big dead and living promotions:
We still have not seen another green fighter with a record close to his (2-1 at the time) come out and finish two top ten fighters like when he beat Lil Nog and Arona. Did it in under 3 min combined too.
BJ Penn Forever - We still have not seen another green fighter with a record close to his (2-1 at the time) come out and finish two top ten fighters like when he beat Lil Nog and Arona. Did it in under 3 min combined too.

Penn's first ten MMA fights is the most exciting and inspiration ten fight start to a career you can imagine and Penn's last ten MMA fights is the saddest and terrible to see ten fight end to a career you can imagine.

We won’t see that again.
BJ Penn
Very true!
Also Dan Henderson was 2-0 when he defeated Allan Goes and Carlos Newton to win the UFC 17 Middleweight Tournament
I know guys nowadays can still come on the scene and make waves but the level of competition is so high now and guys are so well rounded its much more difficult I think. A guy with great skills but little experience is going to be hard pressed to come out and take out a few of the top guys back to back.
Watching the skill level the cream of the crop has is amazing to watch but everyone is so damn good, I think that's one thing that made old school fights so exciting and made guys like Penn look so good early on. Back in the early PRIDE days it still felt like a fight, now with all the rules and everyone being so good it's definitely more of a competition if that makes sense. Fighters weren't nearly as well rounded as today and when you had a guy come out that was doing things we hadn't seen, they were just that far ahead of the competition. It's tough to do that these days. I mean, what haven't we seen at this point. We still have people that are truly special and just put it all together but they aren't really doing anything new, it's just the way they are doing it.
I believe at the time Soku may not have been a household name but Hendo had been attempting to get him a fight in Pride for a long time. When the oppurtunity was presented they took full advantage of it. I kinda feel the celeb. status screwed him up. His work ethic was apparently ridiculous prior to the 2 highlight knockouts.

I’m sure being 2-1 and then KOing Lil Nog (11-2 and coming off a win over Overeem) and Arona (13-4 and comingo off a win over Overeem as well) in less than three minutes would go to a lot of fighters heads.
Must of been an insane high to be on only to have Machida/Cane/Sobral bring you right back down to earth.
