When Rashad Evans injured his knee and had to withdraw from UFC 170 next Saturday, Chael Sonnen immediately offered to finish filming the Ultimate Fighter Brazil, fly to Vegas, and fight Cormier in Evans' place.

Sonnen notorious for his unequaled ability to stir up interest around a fight, and revered for his willingness to step up on moment's notice. In a text message to FOX Sports Marc Ramondi, Sonnen took to task fighters who did step forward.

“DC is a top contender,” said Sonnen. “For people to not jump at the shot to fight him is more than confusing, it’s infuriating. The UFC is plagued with cowards. If you are a light heavyweight who isn’t booked and you didn’t offer to fight him, please, I beg you, quit.”

The list of figures that did offer to take the fight includes Anthony Johnson and Pat Cummins.

I'm not a huge Chael the persona fan but he has a damn good point. I mean I know DC on 2 weeks notice is no easy task but it is a way to move up the rankings. You take the fight and lose you were supposed to anyways. You take it and win you are a title contender right away. The more likely scenario here is you offer and the UFC says no he is waiting for Shad and you look really good to the company here by trying to do what you can for them and the show.

Anthony Johnson offered? That could have been good. Phone Post 3.0

He has a great attitude in this regard. Guys a warrior. Phone Post 3.0

Johnson fight could be interesting. He's probably in decent shape too having fought recently.

I gotta agree with Chael on this. Phone Post 3.0

Chael just wants another paycheck.

I doubt he would actually fight DC on 7 days notice.

Just like he wasn't gonna fight Shogun on 3 days notice.

He wants headlines, and he gets them.

He has less than 1% shot to beat DC, it would be sadder than the turtle vs Rashad.

Come on this is fighting in a cage not playing fucking cards he stepped up to the plate on short notice without training for this opponent end of the day it's a job who doesn't wanna get paid but he ain't sitting in a office he's fighting someone a lot better I can't see why u can't respect that Phone Post 3.0

Chaels right

If he came to fight then that's ok. But he won't.
Chael would be face first tapping to strikes after a minute or so.
He looked like a white bob sapp against rashad! Phone Post 3.0

Thing is rashad is just a better fighter I mean come on if u jump in there to fight ur gonna try to win I mean he tapped shogun so u can't say he's a bob sapp Phone Post 3.0

fighting isnt about being a man, it's a business. Coming in unprepared vs someone talented and compared is not a strong business choice.

It sucks for us fans, but that the real world.

UFC needs to put on cards where there are 6-8 good fights so when 1 fight goes away, there are plenty worth the case

Theres also that strange rumor about colon surgery. Might have seriously affected his performance

I agree don't rely on one good fight to sell card. And it's a business and a job u fight u get paid that's that Phone Post 3.0

I have no idea what you typed, it is rough on me eyez.

I only know that he has yet to fight short notice.

Chael is mostly talk and we all know it.

Do you actually want to see DC destroy Chael?

People thought shogun would destroy him anyone has a chance no? Phone Post 3.0

Shogun was a dipshit and tried to prove a point and Grapple with him.

Stupid move by Rua, well done by Chael.

But if strikes are thrown that fight might go down very differently.

Yeah but he never so he paid the price! I mean how many fights u seen where u thought if he had done that or this, that's just the way it goes Phone Post 3.0

Kindly disagree.

Stepping up and then having on a good showing... it's not everything in the fight game, as you say, winning counts for a lot too, if not more. But in a fight game filled with guys jockeying for easier, safer and fewer fights, there's something incredibly admirable and fan-friendly about stepping up and giving it your best shot ("best shot" with respect to the short prep time).

Ideally I'd like to see both guys have full fight camps, and competitively matched fights. But every once in a while we need someone to show some attitude, some fight, some balls. Otherwise all we've got is a nice sanitized sport like curling.

Best of luck to Cummins. Fingers crossed for a great showing from both fighters.

Sonnen doesn't have to worry about getting fired after a loss, meanwhile 90% of the Zuffa roster does.

Get it now Chael?

Chael speaks the truth. Phone Post 3.0

Chael is on point as usual.
