Enter Vitor Belfort.

The former light heavyweight champion turned middleweight, accepted the last minute bout against Jones, which will headline UFC 152 on Sept. 22 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. In doing so, "The Phenom" has a chance to shock the MMA world by taking down one of the most dominant champions in UFC history.

Can he accomplish the task at hand?

"Vitor is a stud when he believes in himself," said Sonnen to MMAmania.com when asked what he thought the chances were the 185-pound striker could take down the 205-pound champion in Toronto.

While Sonnen believes Vitor can be a "stud," the oddsmakers don't have the same faith in "The Phenom," who currently sits as a 13-1 underdog. Should Vitor be able to pull off the victory against "Bones," it will be the first time he will have UFC gold around his waist since losing his 205-pound title to Randy Couture at UFC 149 way back in 2004.

-1300 is not the same as being the 13-1 underdog, just as Jones at +700 doesn't mean he's the 7-1 favorite. The house is keeping its advantage in the discrepancy.

The odds are probably around 10-1 based on those numbers. I'm not sure exactly how to compute it, but saying Vitor is the "13-1 underdog" is definitely wrong.

It says Vitor was beat by Handy at UFC 149.

Jones is -1,300 and Vitor +700. At least, that's what it opened at.

I remember chael saying he thinks vitor is the moat talented fighter or gifted fighter but its getting his head straight. Phone Post

If the new old newly motivated Vitor shows up, he might have a chance.

True, but it's not the first time he's sung praises for Vitor.

UFC 149 was 8 years ago? It feels like it was only last month... Oh how time flies!

I hope vitor wind but man see home being dismantled

The thing is you have to want to kill your opponent. He is too nice a guy, and his biggest weakness is he is a coward that freezes. He freezes when you have to have movement, and fluidity, like water, and uninhibited reaction.Confidence. All this is tied in with some of the most god-given talent ever bestowed on a MMA fighter. People would give their eye-teeth for a one punch KO power in boxing and MMA. What he posseses is beyond that. He can put people in damn near a coma with one punch, and you won't see it coming because of his speed. Movement. He has the whole package, just not between the ears. If he shows up, anything can happen, even against Jones. If he can get in striking range, and trade with Jones, he can win this. He cannot hesitate, or wait, like he did against Silva. Against Silva he had fear, and Silva knew he was afraid, and Belfort knew Silva knew. That one was over before they enterred Vegas. Silva took full advantage and showboated a finale of unprecedented cockiness, by kicking Belfort in the Head. These are professionals on the highest level ! That just doesn't happen! I don't know if Belfort will be his own worst enemy, but he just inherited a fight against, well, you might as well say a 6 foot 4 inch Silva with 20 pounds more. It will end on stoppage you have to think. Its just a matter of when in the first round. I'm saying 2 minutes and change.

Outstanding journalism. 149 was in 2004! Phone Post

Warzone209 -  I'd be happy for Vitor if he won been long time Vitor Fan but man i just dont see him as mainly a boxer dealing with -11 inch reach disadvantage.

Imagine if he just pulls a move and blast him like he did wandy omg the place would erupt the UG would explode ... Phone Post

It's one thing for a fighter call another fighter a coward. It's an entirely different when you do it.

Good to see this was the first reply, pretty much exactly what i was gonna post. Jones being a 13-1 favorite doesn't make Vitor a 13-1 underdog. Phone Post

If I remember correctly didn't Belfort offer to fight Fedor at short notice when Barnett failed his drug test, and now he is fighting one of the best p4p fighters in the world at short notice.

Yer sounds like a total coward to me too...
