Just wondering if anybody has heard anything about South Suburban Judo Club, Steger IL. Is it a good place to train? Etc. I actually went to check it out and it seemed pretty cool to me, but I've mostly only trained some TMA, and some (very little)BJJ. Any info would be great.
Yea, I have heard of it. I actually train there. The head instructor is Drew Wickham (6th Dan). He is a very good coach. Andre Campos (2nd Dan) is one of the other instructors. He is very skilled on his feet and on the ground. I believe he was a junior national champ from Brazil when he was a teenager. We meet on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:30p.m-8:30p.m. The fees are reasonable.
Sounds good, I plan to start training there Jan 5. See ya then.
Does your club have heavyweights or very tall members?
I am 6'8" 270ish I am currently a member of Force Brazillian Jiu Jitsu in hinsdale, and am looking for additional training. I know of a Yorkville judo club. and it is about as far away from me as steger.
If you know of any other judo clubs in the area please post them.
also, does the club have a Spring loaded mat?
BigLen,
Yea, we do have a couple of heavyweights. One is about 220lbs and a tough brown belt who goes about 260lbs. Our mats aren't spring loaded though. You should stop, we are always looking for new workout partners. Take care.
Big Len,
I didn't know this post was still up, anyway there used to be a judo club that used the same space as Force jiu jitsu when I rolled there like 2yrs ago. I believe the instructor's name was Boland or something. Ask Shawn Burke or Nenad they will know about the Judo club. Otherwise check out South Suburban Judo, i've only been to a couple of classes but its pretty cool.
