Go to giant city in southern Illinois, it's beautiful, has cabins and if you feel like getting college co-eds SIU is about 20 min from there. Also the fried chicken es muy muy bueno.

Giant City lodge is nice. The park itself is beautiful. Lots of other natural sites close by.
Makanda is a small town that borders giant city. It has an old boardwalk and some shops with art and functional blown glass.
Some decent dining in Carbondale and at wineries in the area.
