Spider guard driving me INSANE

I cannot break the grips without using a lot of strength. Even rotating your hand around someone's leg can require a lot of force if they have a fierce grip. And when I do manage to break a grip THEY JUST REGRIP AND MAKE ME DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN. How can i stop them from simply regripping?

I know, I know - I'm doing it wrong. But how? HOW TO PASS SPIDER GWARD

strike if it's mma.

if not, just enjoy the comfort of knowing that they would get their faces smashed in if it were a real fight.

Don't let them get their grip first.

Too late?

Attack their hips or neck to make them remove their grips to defend?

Too off balanced?

Use your hips and legs to put pressure on the spider guard grips. They're using their hands and legs, you might as well too.

Too complicated?

Get your hands on the inside of their pant leg and wait for a good opporunity to break the grip.

U done fucked up along time ago bro.

But seriously, if they have both sleeves and both feet on the biceps then just step back and pull them up until they are off their back and on their butt. Then just step around. Works like a charm. Phone Post

Oh and once you have stepped back and pulled them up, then squeeze your elbows together and push their legs to the ground as you step around. Sorry I'm a competitor not a coach but if you figure it out it works great. Phone Post

^^^ don;t let their feet touch the mat though because they can then shrimp.

Drop forward knee into hamstrings. GI grips at the knee. Do a tricep extension. While posturing and dropping knee.

Then watch him switch to de la riva.

Your welcome. Lol Phone Post

I just say, "I can't believe this is happening" over and over again.

If you watch the Mendes guys they always try to get one hip on the mat. So they will use hips and their deep stance to turn the player, and they will then work their grips to the inside of the leg. Here it gets tricky. They either pin the bottom leg using a knee or foot, use the pin to strip the grip and then leg drag the top leg - or - they pull away and force the guard player to sit up. This stops the guard player posting against the floor and keeping their pillars strong. From here the leg drag is used again.

Works great, but forget strength and concentrate on your tech and putting the pressure in the right places. Good luck! Phone Post

I don't understand...can't they just let me grip then get their own grips for the spider guard? Are there grips I can get that'll shut down their spider guard grips?

How can I attack their hips or neck when my sleeves are controlled.

"U done fucked up a long time ago"

THIS is what I'm looking for! How, exactly, do I not fuck up? How to prevent the spider?

Alright. The clock thing. 12 o'clock is the front. 6 o'clock is behind you. Walk to your 7 or your 5.

The angle change will weaken the grip a bit. Than start digging your knee in. As you're doing that start reaching in to control the hip or neck. Your opponent should feel his leverage is gone so he will abandon ship, let go and block your pass and a split second later get a new grip.

Basically if he gets good grips you are behind in the battle so passing is tough. No where close to impossible but you have to work harder than your opponent because he won the grip war.

To avoid that grab the inside of his knees first and don't look back. Be first when you can. Phone Post

Edit. Once you've changed angles dig your knee into his foot to weaken the grip more. Phone Post

Thanks! So you're saying that grabbing the inside of the knees will shut down the attempts to establish spider guard? Sorry if the answer seems obvious, I just can't picture it in my head very well.

i use spider very often. I can tell you it causes me a lot of problems when my knees get squshed and smashed towards the mat. I turn my hips out the other side if passer does not control them and we start over.
Another tip may be to immediatly pressure and try to pass and keep your hips forward, dont let them establish the spider.

i think controlling the far leg with the same arm that is being controlled will help. Maybe by reaching under and controling grabbing the pants, then smash knees together your chest on thier hips

Tip and strip with your foot works for me most of the time Phone Post

Hmm. So it seems like if i get a solid grip on opponent's pants then i have the advantage - they have to break my grip before establishing spider guard. Does this principle also apply to a collar grip from the top?

Looks like a pattern. From guard bottom grip wrists/sleeves. From guard top grip knees or collar. True? Phone Post

I probably did a crap of explaining it above... Here it is in its glorious entirety. It works.
