Portland's own Olympic silver medalist and Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) star, Matt "The Law" Lindland and his partner (5X UFC Champion) Randy "The Natural" Couture bring the Rose Garden's first Sportfight competition on Saturday, July 9 at 7:30p. The Lindland and Couture production will showcase world-class fighters from across the nation including the many of the best from Oregon for a legendary night of one on one combat.
After winning the silver medal in the 2000 Olympics in Sydney in Greco Roman Wrestling and a world silver medal in 2001, Lindland teamed up with Couture, who is a three-time UFC and national wrestling champion to begin Sportfight. The duo of fighting specialists has built the sport to a new level, as they bring their successful fierce event to a major venue for the first time on July 9.
Rosenburg, OR native and resident of Las Vegas, Dennis Davis (10-3-0) defends his Sportfight title at the 155lb weight class against Beaverton's own undefeated fighter Cam Ward (6-0-0). The Rose Garden main event is a classic match up of striker vs. grappler: one of the most exciting fighters in the world, Duane Ludwig (9-3-0) takes his Muay Thai style of fighting against the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu of Mike Pyle (6-2-0).
Fresh off Spike TV's reality show "The Ultimate Fighter," Alex Schoenauer steps off the television screen and into the Rose Garden to take on Buck Meredith in the 185lbs weight class. Schoenauer survived the elimination-style program before facing a tough defeat during the ninth episode.
