I agree. But worth a good bit
this is an ugly card imo. but its 1 of 1 so has some value just. jot sure how much
I made this same thread a couple of weeks ago. I got into it during covid. I think I valued my collection at 10 grand at least. My Justin Herbert cards are going through the roof even without a grade
captainplanet -Does one exist? How many OGers are collecting? Why is this hobby so fucking insane?
while hunting for Cobra Island troopers back in July, I came across a young gentlemen who turned me back on to baseball cards. We were the only people in line and questioned each other about what we were hunting. I had no idea or interest in sports cards, so he smartened me up. He left me a blaster and some hangers and cleaned out the rest of the inventory, topps chrome 2020. I only grabbed the blaster, not realizing that I wasn’t supposed to open it because they were flipping for 2x on eBay. But o did open, now I’m hooked, and I can’t find cards anywhere for retail.
So…who else is doing this?
Did you score the Cobra guys??
A few guys I work with are really into cards. They were going to send in some cards to PSA to be graded so I ask if I could sent in a few from my collection. One of the cards I sent is a 1993 Derek Jeter SP foil card. I didn't realize what I had until after we sent it in. Some of the Jeter PSA 10 graded cards have auctioned for over $150,000. I'm sure mine will grade out to be a 6 or 7 but the anticipation of getting the grade back is exciting.
Just got back from the Diamond 9 sports card show in Fullerton today with my son. Great show, line around the block took us 1.5 hrs to get in.. well worth it.. Been in the game for a solid 10 yrs now. It’s awesome to see how hot the hobby is now. Sucks that flippers have made it impossible to find wax at target or Walmart but I get it.. there is so much new money and big time investors in it who knows how crazy this thing will be in 5 yrs .. I truly believe this is just the beginning of a whole new asset .. could be wrong but the demand is soooo strong and supply is sooo limited that it is just perfect .. let’s just hope Topps and panini keep those print runs down and we should be able to flourish for years to come.
crazy times

Wow, how much have you spent?

I just started grading my comics. I guess it’s good that I have nothing worth grading card wise? Did you pay to get it pressed or anything? Can you get it pressed?

About 4 grand. During covid last year, the boxes were decently priced. I bought a couple of panini one and one boxes for 400 a box and were able to get prizm and nba hoop at Walmart and target. Since then, these boxes have tripled in price.
I opened 2 of my one and one boxes and hit on a Julius erving card worth at least $2500 but the other box was shit, I think it was John wall and some other worthless player. I sold my other one and one boxes for $800 and they since have increased again in prices. To check the prices of the cards, I compare it to sold ebay prices by using this site, https://130point.com/sales/
I'm deciding if I should send in some of my cards for grading but it's about 100-250 per card to grade. i might just sell the cards as is even though I might lose out on a grand profit if it was graded decently.

Woah nice! That’s awesome! I have only picked up Walmart and Target retail stuff, and not much of it, so have yet to hit on anything. Sitting on a blaster box of NBA Prizm right now, the black one with lamelo and Anthony Edwards on it. Figure it’s not worth touching until someone fork that looks like a stud (which I think Lamelo is doing). I also bought three blasters if 19-20 Hoops for just a little above retail. Not sure if I should just flip those as well.
as for grading, it’s tricky. Yes, getting the condition verified is cool, but something is only worth what someone else is willing to pay for it. And if it comes back lower than what you expected, you might sit on it a while because that number could deter potential buyers. At least that’s how it is with comics.

I literally did nothing to the card except take it my buddy. He looked at it and wiped it clean and sent it in. I'm not sure what else you are supposed to do before sending them in.

So with comics you can get your books cleaned and pressed, which usually leads to a highwr grade. the grading companies actually offer pressing services as well. Not sure if the same can be dond to cards.
Found this at my parent's house when I was going through my cards. Didn't remember even owning it. Then I didn't realize it was /99 until I tried to price it. Couple have sold on eBay for $3,000-4,000 recently so needless to say it's headed to PSA for grading. Haha
I find threads on this topic oddly consuming. I went down a trading card rabbit hole for 4 hours last time somebody made a thread like this.
