How long does a typical sprain, or ligament damage take to heal? I went to the Dr. today, and she told me that I definitely have a severe sprain, and possibly ligament damage to my knee. I go back to see her in a week. I was just curious as to how long it takes to heal? Is 6 weeks realistic?
Thanks in advance!
Ps. Thanks a lot, Tim Sylvia! ;)

The Doctor can tell you better then anyone on the UG, but heres my 2 cents anyway. if its ligament damage, like a tear, it will not heal. A partial tear may not require surgery, but it will never heal completely. If it is a sprain, it will heal slowwwwly. Take it way easy for a while. I think 6 weeks is a good idea. But a sprained anything will always be more prone to damage then if it was never sprained at all.
A sprain IS ligament damage. A strain is muscle or tendon tissue.

I agree, but I just like to hear personal experience stories, so that I somewhat know what to expect. Also, by hearing what happened to others, I won't make unrealistic expectations of when I can, or can't, get back on the mats! :)
these things sometimes take longer to heal than a fracture... i had a really really bad sprain on my ankle, torn stuff and some cartilige dammage. Dr. told me 4, to 6 weeks.. took me 3 months till It got semi healed and took 6 mos for almost complete healing... it still swells and when the weather gets bad it hurts all the time...but the thing is try to prevent re-injury. I didn't listen and probably fucked it up, when i tried training the same week that the injury took place, brace and all it still messed it up...so ..give it 2 mos see how you feel...who knows maybe you'll go to bed and you'll wake up all healed... good luck.
