The guy who just won the belt in his heavyweight debut? This isnt the logic you think it is. Jones just beat Gane. Stipe got his win over an active fighter 7 years ago.

Because the rankings are absolute trash and prioritize keeping guys with name value ranked regardless of if they are winning fights. Tony Ferguson was still top 10 after a 4 fight losing streak and still ranked after his 5th loss to Nate Diaz who wasn’t even ranked when they fought. Meanwhile lesser known guys have to go on insane runs to get a number next to their name.
