I'm a bit torn on this. He had a chance to fight, but does that mean he gets zero because his opponent (had to) drop out? That isn't right either.
He should get some maintenance money, just for the time lost with this. Enough to pay for his (Ortegas) staff, trainers, etc. Ortega will lose a lot from this also, and it's really not his fault.
I think Watauga is holding out hope that he can fight Max sometime in the near future, but it doesn't sound like that's the way it will land. I would bet that Max is gone for at least a year. I think the UFC should offer Watauga verse Stevens Point interim belt, and they should offer it for the August card inI thin If neither guy wants to fight for an interim belt, that is craziness. I know Stevens will want it.

$750,000 flat payment is not enough?? Most people won't make that in 10 years of full time work. I'm all for mma fighters getting paid well but sometimes the fans expectations on fighter pay is ridiculous. The UFC is a business at the end of the day with a lot of overheads I'm sure, some fans think they can just be throwing millions and millions of dollars at fighters.
