It’s beyond ridiculous. Any time one guy begins to take a lead, we hear the announcers starting up “this could be stopped now” bullshit for his opponent.
“Stop the fight” comments should be reserved for Apollo/Drago type fights. Anything short of that, fuck off with that noise. Go watch tennis if you don’t like violence.
Are you talking about the fight of the year that had a best score of 50-43?
Yes, it was uttered during that fight, as well.
It was and it came late. When Kattar was on rollerskates and covering up I don’t think anyone was going to cry about an early stoppage. What made it ridiculous is that they started those comments after Kattar had somehow survived and clinched. In the heat of that onslaught with the elbows and punches if the call is made there is no public backlash but it didn’t happen and that sequence was over. The ref wasn’t going to step into the clinch and tell Kattar the fight was over from those shots he took 20 seconds prior.
Easy to say when it isn’t your life and health on the line. I’ve seen kids die in fights (televised boxing) and many more suffer irreparable damage needlessly. Once a fighter no longer has a realistic chance of winning, the corner has a responsibility to stop the fight and give their fighter an opportunity to fight another day. I coach amateurs (boxing mostly)and the threshold for stopping mismatches is much lower than the pros. One thing that I’ve found is that the fighters almost never want to get stopped, no matter how badly they are getting beaten. The heart of a fighter is really a spectacular thing. Just stepping in a ring or cage takes huge balls. But the damage that they sustain is real and permanent. It’s probably hard to understand from the comfort of your couch with no skin in the game but your perspective changes when you have to look into the eyes of a fighters mother, wife or child. At the end of the day this is a sport not real war.

That was the only fight I could catch. I just thought it was funny when hardy said it was foty contender. Holloway was dominating that fight and the only question when it came to the scorecards was how much he dominated.

What fight as been better this year? It’s only been 16 days.

Exactly. Settle down saying fight of the year for a blowout. It’s the first UFC event of the year.
The ref is supposed to stop the fight if the fighter can’t fight back.
The corner is supposed to stop the fight if the fighter is getting blown out by record-setting offense, has already been wobbled a few times, is taking more and more damage each round, and has ZERO chance to win.
Didn’t Kattar get his nose broken again in the 5th round? And for what?!?!?
Liyon - The ref is supposed to stop the fight if the fighter can't fight back.

Kattar was fighting back so I don’t think it should be on the ref.
Soul Gravy - Some of the posters on this thread need to find another sport. You don't have the right temperament for this one.
If you don’t think health concerns were a good reason to stop it, you should at least see that his team should’ve helped him save more of that chin for fights he can win.
