What is the name of the move that M.Hatmaker performed in Beyond BJJ tape 1 at minute 51-54 where Mark from the Top Half Scissor turk opponent's near leg and with other leg step over the opponent's head,Mark called it ....Stretch but unfortunately I haven't understand the perfect name.
This move also present in Cecchine's LAOH tape 5 or 6 about Neck Cranks.
Thanks
Anyone help me?
I don't know the name of the move but I know what you are referring too.
If you do this against a competent BJJ practicioner, you will be countered and swept. There's no need to even add this move into your arsenal cause it has no value. There are hundreds of other holds that are high percentage that should be used instead of this move.
AlainR,
It is a Carney Stretch. It does have value, and done right a bjj guy isn't sweeping you anywhere. Where most guys get hung on this one is they try to force the head into position when it's too far away and that is when you get swept toward your head side. Another way to be swept is they will try to pull the turked leg away from you while turning into you and sweep you to your hip side.
The first problem is solved by not forcing it. The second is solved by controlling the far arm (Top arm) and applying counter pressure when they try to sweep.
It's a good move but one you either like or don't like.
This stretch also performed by George St.Pierre in his video but in combo with a DWL,probably secured the DWL with step over opponent's head is a good move
Thanks guys,in particular GarageRoller for the correct name! This move is a old school technique or not? Carney Stretch work like a sort of Spine Stretch Right? I love moves like this and other Spine Stretch, one time I have submitted a guy with a kind of Cradle from Head & Arm performed in Rutten's DVD maybe called Body Crunch...
You are talking about a cradle using the legs, correct? One leg in half guard and the other over the guy's head and you basically "crunch them into a ball".
If you are going to pull this off, you better have some strong ass adductors/hamstrings cause all they have to do is staighten the back and they are out. Most guys have a stronger back than what someone's legs would be.
What ends up happening is that as soon as you go to step over the head; they will pass the leg over and scoot to your back. You have the option of hitting a kneebar but have to do it quickly. The action is going to be constantly moving on the mat so the odds of being able to secure this properly are very slim. If the guy has any grappling ability at all, he's gonna be working double underhooks and scooting his hips away or trying to get his guard back.
The big difference between this position and Rutten's position is that if Rutten's hold fails, he's still in good position. If you screw up here, the odds are higher for you ending up in a bad way.
This just isn't high percentage IMO.
But hey, don't listen to me...........try it on a competent grappler and see how well it works. If you can make it work, use it.
Yes psychoslasher, is the Carney Stretch.
The Rutten's move, Sherdog called Body Crunch, and with it Bas in Pancrase circuit defeated Osami Shibuya.
Maybe is a exotic move but is good in my point of view, also Cesar Gracie in his BJJ series show it.
Yeah, I saw Bas demonstrate that move on his Extreme Pancrase set. He said that it was one of those moves that has to be used once the opponent is already tired. To me, this is much more practical than the Carney Stretch hold.
Can any of the other guys chime in on this?
