SUICIDE-lets talk about it...

everyone has their viewpoints on whether suicide is selfish or whatever but i have a few questions about it

1-do you know anyone that committed suicide?which one hit you the hardest?

2-whats strange is they say most people that commit suicide are depressed..umm, wouldnt 100% of people that commit suicide be depressed, or else why would they do it?

3-in any of the suicide cases you know of, do you think the person was better off dead than alive?meaning their life was so shitty and unbearable that they are indeed better off out of their suffering..be honest, of the suiciders i know, 1-2 cases come to mind where i think the victim and their family is beter off..sounds negative but these peoples lives were hellish and i didnt see it getting better..

My best childhood friend was the first one in his family to find his brother had hung himself in his bedroom. He had some issues, but by ending his life he had a huge negative impact on my friend, who never really recovered. Phone Post

16 year old nerdy guy shot himself in the head after his girlfriend dumped him. Phone Post

My dad was a superintendent of some PJs.

He still says to this day that the most disturbing thing he's ever seen was when he had to go into the apartment of a murder suicide.

He says he still remembers the brain matter dripping allover the wall behind the bed where dude shot himself than his old lady.

He said that he knew there'd be a lot of blood and guts when he went in but that he'd never imagined it would be that gory.

He wasn't the same for weeks after he had to go in that apartment. I just imagine the type of PTSD that homicide detectives must go through.

There were more suicides in that housing complex too, some while I still loved there. The one that still sticks out to me is when all the lights went out. Never seen anything like it before or after, all the power in the whole complex and the complex was huge. All these people started screaming, saying this cat was hanging up in the woods. He hung himself where all is kids had a rad ass tree fort with porn pinned up allover it. It was an eerie nite to say the lease. The fire trucks started racing in to get him shortly after. Lots of kids ran up to see him, for whatever reason, I did not.

That's all I got on suicides.

Bry Bry, tell us your experiences with it. Phone Post 3.0

I've had two people close to me commit suicide.

My cousin and a friend

No idea why either of them did it.

They definitely aren't better off dead.

The friend one affected me differently because he hung himself in a public park. The kid was a super nice and genuine person. It really messes with my head when I think about what got him to that point. I'll never know.

During highschool one of my best friends killed himself. Our high school had the highest suicide rate in the nation( 9 in 3 years). It was horrible wishing you could have done something. And it hurts so bad knowing they hurt so bad that they would rather die. Now this is when we were. 16 years old.

Since then I have know quite a few people that have committed suicide for various reasons. Some were in such long drawn out battles with addictions, in a weird way I do believe they are better off.

Others were over financial issues or divorces/break ups that are so painful. These ones it seems troublesome because the troubles and heartaches would end. They were just in bad situations.

It really is weird to deal with knowing people you cared for chose to end their existence.

It's a good hobby, but no way to make a living.

I have had 15 people on my fathers side kill themselves the past 30 years, and two try and fail.

My uncle had two sons kill themselves, another fail at it, and a daughter OD.

It really freaks me out, and I've thought about it a lot, but I am so scared of death I don't know if I could ever do it. I don't know what brings you to that final moment, a demon has to take over you or something. It is transcendent. My father and I have been super dark a lot of times, but never there. I don't know man, I really want to understand it.

I don't like to call it selfish, because these people are going through a darkness most can fail to understand, even themselves, but I think if you know someone thinking like that you should do everything in your power to try to help them.

I always remember that line in Donnie Darko that Grechen says. It's how I feel about my family most of the time.

"Some people just have tragedy in their blood."

I'm firmly against suicide if one is healthy physically, but depressed mentally. However, I fully support one's right to prematurely depart this world in the case of pain and suffering associated with an incurable, terminal disease.

Depression can be dealt with. Phone Post

My cousin. He was always joking and seemed happy. He shot himself in the bathroom when nobody was home. His 10 yr old daughter found him. That was over 30 yrs ago and she's been fucked up ever since.

2-whats strange is they say most people that commit suicide are depressed..umm, wouldnt 100% of people that commit suicide be depressed, or else why would they do it?

Some people commit suicide when they're terminally ill. My grandfather killed himself before I was born because he contracted spinal cancer in the early 60's. Supposedly a very painful way to die so he cut out the middleman. Maybe he was depressed, but from what my family's told me he wasn't classically depressed.

Possibly my grandfather given that at that time cancer treatments weren't anywhere nearly as effective as they are today. My cousin? No way. Evidently he was in a loveless marriage but because he grew up in a predominantly Christian household we believe that he felt that divorce wasn't a viable option.

Barring terminal illness, I think that most suicides are a waste. People have come back from very, very low places in their lives to be happy again.

Also, I don't necessarily agree that it's an overtly selfish act. People say this like the suicidal person was just acting like a baby and just decided to end it because shit got a little tough. I disagree. I believe it's a serious symptom of a debilitating mental condition. Call it mental illness if you want, but someone who seriously considers suicide, especially those with friends and family, are NOT in their right mind when they carry it out. They're in PAIN. Pain that is unimaginable to those that have never experienced it. Pain that is SO bad the idea of ending the pain overwhelms the reality of the grief the suicide will cause to loved ones. It's not a selfish act. It's an irrational act.

I just CAN'T imagine that my cousin would have EVER wanted his daughter to go through what she had to go through. Therefore, the only conclusion I can come to is that he was just out of his mind in mental pain when he did it.

Well, WTF? Are we talking about this or what? Phone Post 3.0
