Susumu used to photograph all the Japanese shows. Pride, Shooto, Pancrase, etc. He would also cover the UFC during the dark ages. It seems crazy that he would come all the way from Japan to cover UFC’s in Alabama and Mississippi but he did it.

Whenever Susumu’s Gallery got updated, you felt like you were in for a treat.

Gold standard of MMA photography IMO. Unfortunately, I never had the pleasure of meeting him when I lived in JPN.

About 20 years ago on fullcontactfighter.com I purchased their last copy of a Japanese photography book by Nagao titled FIGHT. It’s just an amazing photography book of his early MMA photos. Might still be my favorite book I own. OP needs to find it and buy it.

It’s amazing how much these pictures capture the spirit of that era. We take pictures for granted now because it’s so easy to find video. Man, these brought me back.

Thanks again!
Please post more if anyone has them!

Well said.

This book is full of awesome photos. My cellphone images have glare, by design and convenience., The original product is stunning.

I know I only mentioned PrideFC in the thread title, but man those early UFC photos were just as incredible. I remember having saved images of Randleman v Rizzo, Bas, Coleman. His images were worth 1 million descriptive words. Keep em coming if you get em.

Pride, UFC, Pancrase, Shooto, whatever!
