Takanori Gomi - "UFC's offer money is so good"

I hope he doesn't turn out to be a crocop. I do like Gomi a lot though.

TheVileOne -
PatrickFreitas - UFC's offer must be incredible, especially considering that their contracts are exclusive. I would think he'd take less money with Strikeforce so that he could continue fighting in Japan.

Think about it Patrick. Gomi already pretty much conquered Japan several years ago and then failed to motivate himself. Maybe his motivation now is to come to the US and top the scene here.

Well, based on his own comments about the UFC's 'money offer' being so good, he appears to be money-driven above all else. So all I can assume is:
UFC offer > Strikeforce offer + Japan pay.

If that's true, then bravo UFC for stepping up. They need some fresh bodies and new stories in their LW division to change up their current carousel of talent. I'd like to see what a motivated, reinvigorated Gomi could do. Maybe he can turn his career around like Vitor did.

Penn/Gomi II is a big stretch. Nostalgia aside, Gomi has looked terrible lately and Penn has evolved into a killer. But I guess a little Zuffa magic turns this into a make-able fight. One more notch on BJ's title belt.

Imagine what Dana would do if Gomi won though...Serra all over again.

Even in Gomi's prime, he'd be hard pressed to get past the top 5 in the UFC.

He'd give a FOTY against Clay though...

If he signs, hopefully he takes training very serious. I'd love to see a well prepared and conditioned Gomi KOing UFC wrestlers.

Tomato Can - When's the last time Gomi was considered a "big star"?

The last time he got an offer from UFC and Strikeforce, the money was big star money.

When was that? 2006?

 Gomi vs. Spencer Fisher would be a great first fight for him

Gomi would break Clay's jaw or crush his eyesocket.

UFC has a bunch of wannabes trying to bang on the feet with their eyes closed, Gomi is going to be stiffening up some of these floater turds up real soon. UFC hasn't seen KO power like Gomi since they signed Shane Carwin and Gomi hits harder.

shut up stupid. 40k posts in and youre still a retard. How long till you smarten up a bit?

CRE: Gomi didn't get past Diaz, he wouldn't even challenge Florian, Sanchez, Stephenson, Sherk...the list goes on and on.

Florian = Subbed

Sanchez = Dominated

Stephenson = Subbed

Sherk = Dominated

The game has changed a fuckton since Gomi was ranked #2 last time (2004 or so).

Oh man, some one better send Gomi a message via Twitter that CRE is putting his pull behind him. This will surely result in Gomi's complete downfall if he goes to the UFC.

I actually agree with CRE. Let him KO Guida to get him some exposure. Maybe even feed him Florian

Jimmy Mackaway - Dan Henderson is on record recently saying he made more money in Pride.

source? I have a hard time believing Hendo was making much more money in Pride. Henderson made 250,000 for his last Ufc fight(not including his KO of the night bonus).

Could be related to payouts and back door money and what not.

According to NSAC and MMAWeekly, he got $50K for beating Belfort at Pride 32 and $50K for beating Silva at Pride 33.

He got paid $100K for the title fight with Silva. $100K/150K for the Palhares fight.

So as far as pay goes he was reportedly earning over twice and even more than that for his UFC fights than what he was reportedly earning for his US fights in Pride. Now with net pay and payouts it could work out differently. I mean he spent about 7 years in Pride, so I imagine overall he could've made more. But UFC at least looked to be paying a lot more per fight.

As far as Gomi goes, I can see him getting around six or close to six figures for his fight money mainly because of his experience, being a former Pride champion, and having beaten and fought some big names. Most of the Japanese guys haven't done as well in the US though.

hopefully he signs with the UFC, only problem will be that everyone in the UFC will be bigger than him at LW.

Gomi needs at least one fight before Penn. First, because he should have to earn it because he's fringe top ten at best right now, and second so that he can get an intro to the UFC audience.

Which would you rather the UFC do?

Gomi/Maynard - Set him up for a title shot right away, but also have the risk that he loses immediately.

Gomi/xxxxx, Gomi/Edgar - A journeyman midlevel guy meant to get him a win, then a title contender fight.

 Gomi/Penn would go alot like the first one, except alot more blood and some sort of stoppage.. Bj was still living the life back then. BJPenn2.0 savagely eats gomi alive...and drinks the blood

CRE - Gomi is better than your favorite LW, unless his name is BJ Penn.

What if my favorite is Sergei Golyaev or Satoru Kitaoka? lol.

Haole -  In his last four Gomi is 2-2 against questionable opponents

his best careers wins are Sakurai (way past his prime, during his 401K run)), Jens (past his prime, during his entertainment mode), Kawajiri (never top ten unless you have yellow fever)

he basically lost to damn near every top ten fighter he faced in their prime or when they were up and coming, he only beat top comp on the decline

Truth.

Clearly a work.

"BJ Penn fans, this is the #1 LW in the world. When was the last time BJ Penn beat Gomi? That was a LONG time ago!"

LOL. I think a better question is "When is the last time Gomi beat BJ Penn?" Oh, wait...

I think Gomi can still be one of the best at 155, but that's an opinion, his past couple of years of performances sure don't help my cause...

i would have loved to see this happen a few years ago.

Gomi's fall from grace seems pretty bad.

If he comes in looking like he has his past couple of fights hes gonna have alot of problems.
