Takedown defense is causing the stalling

I think fighters ability to defend against the take down, to minimize damage in the guard or clinch is what is causing the "stalling" people are crying about.
Rashad wasn't just holding Rampage against the cage, he was working for the double. Rampage was defending it well.
Against a weaker and less seasoned opponent Rashad would have completed his takedowns, gotten mount and pounded/submitted his opponent.

By the same token if Hardy wasn't so resilient then GSP would have submitted him early.

It isn't a strategy of these fighters to try and stall to avoid damage. They are the ones pressing the fight where they want it to go.

If a striker wants a stand up war, it's up to him to make sure it doesn't end up on the ground or against the fence.

Guys stall on the ground too.

I'm not saying there is no such thing as lay n pray, but when someone has their opponent against the fence trying for a take down then that is implementing a technique not stalling.

Imo strikers need to evolve their footwork, and striking against wrestlers specifically. It seems the knee and the uppercut are good counters to the shoot.

It's the rules..............you are ALLOWED to press your opponent and FAIL at getting a take down for 14 of 15 mins in MMA because FAILURE is REWARDED by the fucking retarded "octogon control" judging criteria.

Well you could also say the opponent is failing to be in the center of the ring striking for 15 minutes.
Strikers like Chuck showed that with technique you can implement your game plan against superior wrestlers.

Chuck relied on his chin to keep his hands lower to prevent takedowns and eat punches while getting up.

If the main focus of your style is striking then the ability to eat punches would have to be there in the first place.
It wasn't just that, it was his technique and ability to get to his feet that did it.

Bisping and Machida also show that with fast footwork you can keep the fight where you want it. Time and again wrestlers will stand and wang with other wrestlers. This is because they respect their ability to defend the shot and fear reversal. If strikers caught up with wrestlers abilities, then almost every fight would be an exciting for the fans stand up war.

actually it is specifically PUNISHED. one of the SPECIFIC CRITERIA given for octagon control is defending a takedown. a SUCCESSFUL takedown is another listed form of octagon control.

yet the incompetent judges have time and time again failed to properly score fights.

if they did wrestlers would have to try something else or they'd lose every decision

if judges stuck to octagon control as defined in the rules instead of being shitheads like douglas crosby and inventing their own judging criteria, a lot of these problems would go away

they're defending the takedowns because the Unified rules scores the takedowns as points

I think not scoring takedowns and control as points will solve the problem
