Taking the back from half guard

I know many ways of taking the back from the half guard. I was wondering if you guys have any opinions about which one is about the most high percentage one.

Here are several ones:

  1. Raising your underhook arm up and sliding your hips down, and ducking under his armpit.

  2. Raising your underhook arm up while being semi-upright and "weaving" your head under his armpit.

  3. Pushing into his ribs hard and quickly with your underhooking bicep and then moving your upper body quickly in the opposite direction, and ducking under his armpit.

  4. Using your underhook HAND to push his arm on the same side over your head. You would push his elbow or tricep.

Then, after you've ducked under his arm, I'm wondering what's best to do in order to take his back completely, without him being able to turn and face you again? If you post on the ground with your non-underhooking arm, sometimes you can't "hug" him tight enough to climb onto his back without him being able to turn to face you. But if you bodylock him (using both your arms), things might be tighter, I don't know. Any opinions?

haven't read your post yet, i'm in a rush, but...
there's a sweet way to do it from top of 0.5 grd. do the knee slide across, and when the guy turns on his side, drive off your near leg, and snake around.

can't do it if he has an underhook, and your other (top) arm is waiting around his neck for the RNC.

sorry if you can't visualize this, maybe someone can do a better job, if they know what i'm talking about.

Ok, I was talking about taking the back from the BOTTOM of the half guard, not the top.

All the entries you mentioned worked well at different times. I would say I use #1 on your list most frequently. I usually set it up by threatening the sweep, looking for him to post an arm to defend. When he does, I duck under it and go to the back.

I use #2 a little more with the gi, when I can really trap that arm and control it while I weave my head under his armpit.

Two other ones I use are an arm drag if he sits up at all, and ducking under his far leg to take the back that way. It's a longer route, but I have been getting that one a lot on people who are really focused on stopping the underhook game.

Since I'm more of an open guard and close guard player, the offensive half guard I've been using is the same one I use to take the back. I like to go from butterfly guard to half-butterfly guard(left leg staying in the butterfly hook, while the right foot hooks in like half guard. Also use a deep left underhook reaching around their waist.) Your right hand is free to control their left wrist as well. From there you just sink into them deeply gripping around their waist so it's almost like they're passing you by. Then duck your head under their arm(you can use your right hand to help pull it over your head if you want), pop your left foot out of the butterfly hook at the last second and climb up their back.

all great suggestions, the only thing i would add to pretty much all of them is that you can really develop alot of power by giving them a hard push/hit in the but with your knee. It doesn't only move them forward but if done right you can alot of the time, make them post, giving you even more room and getting their weight off you.

Weird move but it's something different. If you have you left leg on the outside from bottom half-guard, pull the left skirt of you opponent's gi top out and pass it with your right hand to your left hand. While holding the gi bottom, escape your hip to the outside (shrimp to your right buttcheek). Once your hip have escaped out you can insert your outside(leftleg) deeply into to loop you create by hold the gi skirt of you opponent gi and your left arm.

Now you have several options. First I like to (while being on my right buttcheek I kick my left leg out. The reaction of your opponent will be to push back into you.

Continued

Once you feel them resist by pushing back you bend you left leg(to give space for your opponent to come into you). As you bend your left leg, You roll to your opposite side(left side) and kick to sweep your opponent and take top position.

If you can't create the momentum to reverse you opponent you can easily sneak a underhook as they lunge back into you. Direct the underhook toward to wall in the direction of the top on your head in one motion and shrimp to your right side.
. Usually you opponent will be at best on their hands and knees if noy flat on their belly. Take the back.

Sometimes you have an overhook on his outside arm and he bends his arm downwards like he's being kimura'ed to limp arm out of it. When he does that you can use your other hand to do a very sweet arm drag on his bent arm. This is more for if you are already sitting up or have your hips way out and it's closer to butterfly guard. If you are flat on your back he would just keep his underhook, not try to limp arm out.

keeping the knee high on hs shoulder controling his arm around your leg, set up arm drag off that by sitting up.
