we all know Tank wasnt a bullshitter when it comes to his streetfighting stories but id like to hear some examples of ones that went down..did he just go into a bar and talk shit to every guy in the place or did he wait for a guy to get a little cocky and then it was on?
he even admits to losing a few, id like to hear about these as well..i know he got jumped in NYC by a few gangster types but it was a 3-4 on 1 situation..
anyone?
Funny you bring this up. Of all the fighters, he is the most interesting to me and I enjoy hearing these as well. Unfortunately, I don't have any. I know there are some folks on here that are from his area that have stories.
he has a book he wrote. its supposed to be fiytion but its actually all about him. and his fights
i'd like to read it....
Tank is more interesting than 99.9% of all the MMA fighters in history
I remember when I thought he was the toughest guy in the world as a kid.
deezlemike - I remember when I thought he was the toughest guy in the world as a kid.
Absolutely. When I was young and had no appreciation for style, technique, or the ground game, I refused to accept that anyone in the world could be Tank. He was equally scary and enthralling.

People don't realize how important tank was to the evolution of the sport. He was the first heavy heavy hitter that made people question whether technique was enough. At his prime his striking power would still stand up to heavyweights' power of today. No, he couldn't have beat anyone of note in today's ufc, but he belongs in the history of the sport as an important and iconic figure
Tank brought the UFC into popular culture and was actually their first crossover to mainstream star.
Tank was doing cameo scenes on shows like Friends when it was at its peak and Tito was little more than his towel boy.
In addition, Tank was the guy who first put his Money where his mouth was. He would literally step off a bar stool and walk into the octagon. He was willing to fight anyone. Anyone. Any time. Any place.
He is the reason that the Everyman believes that he can fight in the UFC. He took martial artists and showed no respect to them. He was a fighter, and a mans man.
If only he ever trained a little harder or did a true camp. He dropped Maurice Smith.
In as fuck
I remember meeting him in louisianna at like ufc 30something. the one that had the main event cancelled. Kevin slipped on some scaffolding poles backstage and hurt his shoulder.
We were hanging out at the bar after the fights with all the fighters. Everyone used to go to the same place for the after fight party.
We were taking a bunch of pictures of everyone, got pics with John Perreti, Tank, Tito, Chack, etc. Me and my friend decided to run get more film from the convenience store. We left our girls at the table.
Back then I traned BJJ and thought i was a bit of a badass, like everyone did back in the early days. When we get back to the bar, I see someone sitting in my seat. I go over and tap him on the back, hard. He looks around and it's Paul Herrera. He had lost to Gary pretty badly, but i'm no Gary Goodridge.
I immediately stammer an apology and offer to let him have my seat indefinitely. That's when I notice that Tank is in my buddies seat as well, they had come over to flirt with our girls while we were out...lol. Tank was super cool. He showed us one of his party tricks.
He took out his false teeth and let my friend Jeff's wife stand on his face as he layed on the floor.
Anyway, don't know if this is interesting to anyone, but i typed it out so i'll post it. lol.

I too wonder how his fights started. Did he provoked them or was he the Unmasked Force of Just Retribution this world needs more of?
TTTank stories are the best stories.
I remember watching an early UFC as a kid and whoever was interviewing him in between rounds asked," what are you going to do during the break to get ready for the finals tonight?"
Tank goes, " oh I dunno. Probably take a nap and then drink a few beers." Or some shit like that. Dude was awesome.
Sprawl'n'Stall - I too wonder how his fights started. Did he provoked them or was he the Unmasked Force of Just Retribution this world needs more of?I remember an interview with Big John where he said Tank would bait guys into fighting him.

one of the scariest things I have ever seen in MMA
edwims -I remember watching that on PPV and saying "Dude just died!! Is he dead?!?"
one of the scariest things I have ever seen in MMA
For years my buddies who were there would scream "DUDE JUST DIED!" at every big KO that happened. It happened as late as Rich Franklin v Nate Quarry because I remember two of my buddies yelling that that night.

I meet tank at my pro debut for kotc .. We were partying together At the soaring eagle casino after.. Super chill dude.. One point of the night he started messing with me to the point I thought he wanted to fight me..I looked at my coach like wtf do I do and they both started laughing .. My coach had him do it lol
