Two Team Tompkins fighters made the trip to Chicago
to participate in Monte Cox/Jeff Currans Extreme
Challenge 55 in Lakemoor Il. In a bout at the 170 lbs
division, Alex 'Pecker' Gasson showed incredible
poise and discipline in dismantling his Team Shidokan
opponent, Andy Kozak. Pecker picked Kozak apart
standing up, then clinched for the takedown, worked
to full mount and secured a tight guillotine for the
tapout at 2:38 or round 1. In the other Team Tompkins
bout, Kurt Illeman who weighed in at 185 lbs. faced
his toughest challenge
against Team Militech standout Rory Markham. This
was a stand up war as some heavy leather was thrown
in the first minute, with Illeman blocking an early
high kick then working some great striking and
landing a viscious left hook that sat down Markham
and opened a huge gash under his right eye. Illeman
then rushed his opponent and continued the punishment
on the ground with great strikes that led the referee
to stop the bout to get the doctors opinion. At 1:27
of round 1 the fight was stopped due to the cut,
Illeman victorious via TKO. Special thanks to
