The 2009 FILA World Pankration Championships will be held Sept. 2009 in the Republic of Lithuania. Team USA took 3rd place at this year’s event (in Albania)dispite not having a full squad.
We have come up with a proposed solution on how to choose the 2009 World Team and fund some if not all the Athletes travel expenses to the Games next year.
The USAFPA Committee is currently reviewing this proposal.

We are planning on holding the USA World Team Trials Tournament in July 2009.
The Trials will consist of the following FILA International Weights:
Men 66kg, 71kg, 77kg, 83kg, 90kg, 100kg, +100kg
Women 61kg, 65kg, 71kg, 78kg, 87kg, 97kg, +97kg
Proposal:
Athletes will pay a $75 participation fee to compete in the World Team Trials.
100% of the total participation fees will go to pay for the World Team Trials
Champions to Travel to Lithuania.
Example:
16 Athletes are entered in the 66 kilo division.
$1200 entry fees are collected for the 66 Kilo Division Champion.
In the event that the Champion cannot compete in the FILA World Championships
the Runner Up will receive the funds etc.......
The USAFPA will hold the funds and use it for the athletes travel expense.
Other Available Funds:
We are also raising funds for Team USA from all our Sanctioned Events.
Promoters of USAFPA Sanctioned events are donating the amount of $1 per tournament participant to the USA World Team fund. The more sanctioned events the more funds. We are also looking for corporate sponsors. The US Federation is a 501 c non profit org so all donations are Tax deductible.

fee!
Requirements to Compete in the USA World Team trials July 2009:
1. Must be a US Citizen able to obtain a US Passport.
2. Must be at least 19 years by Sept 2009. Not sure if we can get a FILA Waiver
for 18 yrs. and under.
3. You must have placed top 3 in a 2008/ 2009 Sanctioned Pankration Tournament.
** Advanced division or Open (1 skill level) Event.
If all is a go, the 2009 World Team Trials will be held July 2009 either in California or Wisconsin.

FYI - The 2008 US National Championships are scheduled for Nov. 9th in Orange County, California. Men and Teen divisions are capped at 16 competitors per weight. Women and Kids are capped at 8 per weight class.Pre-register if you want a chance to be a National Champ or All American.
Top 3 finalists get a spot in the World Team trials tournament and the National Champions will get the top seeded position in the bracket.

Here is the answer to your question.
Pro Fighters who are licensed or unlicensed Pros with 2 or more wins cannot compete in Pankration in the US.
FILA does not prohibit Pros from the World Championships but they would not be able to qualify for the World Team in the United States.
