Academy? Training? Style? Record? Ranking? Titles? Etc?
Great friend and fighter.
Trains out of Church street NYC with Jason "Knock 'em out" Strout. Jason came up under Duke Roufus.
Chris has won several US WKA titles, a North American WKA title and a b-class bronze when we were in Thailand for the IFMA world cup. he was outsted from the tourney by an a-class fighter who lost and re-registered the next day in b-class. shady, huh? so chris may have gone to the finals otherwise.
great technique and cool hearted guy. never seen him angry in or out of the ring. :)
I saw him fight in September. Excellent fighter!
Thx, I've only heard good things about Chris.
I can only say amen to what Pisand has already said. Also that I was very proud to call both Chris and Pisand friends and team mates at the IFMA's in Thailand.
How does amateur Muay Thai in Thailand compare to that of amateur Muay Thai here in the United States -- length of rounds, number of rounds, elbows and other strikes, equipment or lack there of, etc?
The IFMA tournament was 4 x 2:00 rounds and full muayThai rules. Meaning elbows to head, knees to head were allowed. THe equipment was headgear, chest protector, 8 or 10 oz gloves depending on weight and the thinnest shinpads and elbow pads i've ever felt. FBT made.
Keeping in mind the purpose of all the gear was to make muayTHai seem as safe as the point fighting in TKD...and then muayTHai gets into the Olympics too.
LOL - there were a lot of TKOs, some KOs, lots of black eyes and cuts.
More black eyes and cuts in a tourny than I have ever seen. Our team had our fair share. I got chris getting stitches on tape though.
Have we had that "style" of amateur Muay Thai anywhere here in the USA?
In terms of allowing full rules among amateurs - I haven't heard of this anywhere. But anyone can correct me if I am wrong. I have only seen chest protectors worn in smoker type events for really green fighters...like the first time they step into the ring in an interclub event.
The amateur tourneys here that I have competed in are the USKBA and WKA...modified muayThai rules with headgear and shinpads, no chest protector. If I recall at the USKBA, shinpads were optional, and at the WKA, both headgear and shinpads in the finals were optional if both fighters agreed. If 1 fighter decided to wear either piece of protective gear then the other guy/girl did too.
Thx, pisand.
