How come this guy doesn't seem to compete in the mundials?
He won the absolute in the copa de mundo (cbjjo) but didn't see him compete in the mundials.
what's his background like?

I think he got injured and couldn't fight in the Mundials this year. I could be mistaken.

he beat sperry a few years ago. sperrys has an awesome top game but leo got on top. Tough guy
He's done very well in the Mundials, even winning it in 99 by beating Sperry in the finals (as LB was saying). In 2000 he lost to Maragarida.
In 2003 he lost in the finals against Werdum, looking a little spazzy at some points. For example, when Werdum was turtled up he just explosively ripped him straight backwards to take his back. In another instance, they were facing each other with Leite standing and Werdum kneeling, and Leite just charged forward tackling Werdum backwards. Both of these things can result in injury.
Anyways, he trained at Alexander Paiva's in Rio but he may be training more with Brasa now.
He is a big tough badass judoka who is also a faxia preta mundial champ. He will throw you with the tai otoshi. Its sick.
trained with him for about two weeks in brazil at flamengo judo club. he is really good on the ground and has good taio and seio. he also liked uchimata. he wins a lot of jiujitsu tournaments using judo and stalling.
