Tell me about Marcelo Garcia in 2003

I know the 2003 ADCC was what put Marcelo on the map. Was he known before this? Was this is first major tournament? Tell me everything! Phone Post 3.0

Dont think he was kniwn before that very well. I do seem to remember him getting armbarred on the first 101 Submissions dvd. I forget who it was but the guy looked bigger than Marcelo, he mounted and caught him (fairly easily it seemed). Gustavo Dantas maybe? I watched it after 2003 ADCC and was like- wait, is that the x guard guy? I think Marcelo upped his training after that one... Phone Post 3.0

Just Ike Eddie Bravo, when I saw the name I thought he was Mexican. After his performance I was trying to find out if he was from TJ so I could drive across the border to train with him.

Eddie Bravo is Mexican.

What I was referring to was when Eddie was at MG's in New York, he too thought that Marcelo was Mexican when he saw his name on the list. Garcia wasn't as popular of a name for a Brazilian back then.

he'd won mundials at brown in 2002, purple in 2000 and blue juvenile in 99, so wouldn't have been totally unknown.

He'd also placed at the brasileiros a few times, even at black belt in 2002.

You are probably correct, that does sound more accurate. Its been forever since I saw it and do not have the dvd anymore. Phone Post 3.0
