Tell me about Mark Twight (Gym Jones)

Have any of trained with him or heard stories of people that have?

It seems like a blend of Crossfit HIIT training w/ an emphasis on periodization and sport-specific training.

Quite Frankly I think the silence speaks for itself.

Honestly I have never met Mark Twight nor have I personally experienced training at Gym Jones. But from what I have seen and read of what  he / they do, it is nothing special.  He was a part of CF in the beginning (or so it appears). From there he created his own version of it.

TAKU T.N.T.

Mark Twight is what he is.

He promotes straight forward, no bullshit approaches to progress which, summed up = Efficient system + HARD WORK = Reward

Simple and totally fucking correct.

He was an exceptional climber who brought a fair bit of legitimacy to CF back in the early days. Got in a pissing match with Glassman, and was excommunicated.

He was the trainer for the 300 guys, which was the flashpoint for Glassman throwing a shitfit over Twight's lack of a shoutout to CF.

Has had his own "too cool for school" training center in Utah, training some serious athletes. He comes from more of an endurance background, and after getting the quick and easy MetCon adaptations fade, has gone back to the relative orthodoxy in terms of the need for LSD.

He recently decided that he wants some of the Cert money, and is now offering training/certifications for Gym Jones Trainers.

He's more than a little psycho, but let's be honest, anyone with a shred of sanity would have headed back for warmth and home before they accomplished a fraction of what he did as an alpinist.

Livingstone - Both Gym Jones and Crossfit SUCK! Too much time spent pretending to be the ultimate form of fitness.

Uhm ... quoting from T-Bag isn't going to help your cause.

And it's more than a little odd that you're using the opinion of someone you think sucks (CF Journal) to trash Twight is pretty retarded.

Twight actually (claims to) address a lot of the issues that are normally raised with regards to crossfit: He does a lot more absolute strength stuff, utilizes perioditization and tailors workout to specific athlete needs.

Yes, he's parallelled Glassman's deliberate-assholeishness trademarked personality, butI would think most crossfit bashers would approve of what he's done.

The extent to which the Crossfit journal article missed the entire point is honestly staggering.

Twights attitude alone is enough to keep me from ever really wanting to know any more about him. The whole Gym Jones thing is sort of silly in my mind. Again...nothing magic about anything that he or they do.

Purely my opinion.

TAKU T.N.T.

I've read the CF journal article before and felt that it was more than a bit biased. CF does have a way of brainwashing you IMO.

However, I felt that the Gym Jone's methodology was a good attempt at "keeping things real" in the CF community.

Appreciate the articles!

I've never really thought Twight's intention was to come across as magic, IMO his entire point is that it's simple - complete dedication to the task at hand, with your greatest effort and attention to detail = results.

Pretty sure he's referring to the programming...

He'd want to have something pretty magical given he's charging $10,000 to become an affiliate.

Really wierd.  After reading his Kiss or Kill book about his climbing career, I'm shocked that he is doing anything other than being angy or bitter somewhere obscure.

I guess good for him.

I think it's basically like that one rap song... he finally realized

"You want go get paid my niggggqaaaaaaaaaaaaa?????"

I have a lot of friends that personally train with Mark Twight. My friend and training partner John fought last night and won by armbar 1st round. John's just one of many athletes that train under Mark. My friends Johnny Carlquist and James Gardner also train and instruct there and they just got gold medals at the Pan Ams. These guys are the real deal my ninjas!
