Freaking 6'11" skyscraper!
Turns 21 today.
He's dutch so I was thinking kickboxer but, damn, he sure has a lot of submission wins!
Is this guy a real threat to make big noise?
ttt damn it
trains with dirty bob, mainly a grappler but has also done some thaiboxing matches.
that is one tall grappler
6'11" 220.
Something tells me he's going to have a problem with wrestlers who can defend a submission.
Struve has a very good triangle.
He could triangle you from across the cage!
Steak & chicken.
Struve has slightly dubious grappling fundamentals, a little bit of striking technique, not a whole lot of power and freakish height. He could become a good fighter in the future, but right now he's slapping loose triangles on 9-14 Seikendo fighters and probably not ready for the UFC.
I'm not sure "unremarkable European grappler" is a fair assessment given the fact that he just RNCed Mario Neto, who's a BJJ black belt and an experienced MMA fighter. The dude's length allows him to throw a lot of unexpected stuff at people on the ground.
Also, while the UFC website puts him at 6'11", most other sites put him at only 6'8" which seems a little more likely.
I did amend my post a little, although I would disagree that beating Neto in an MMA fight is a good gauge of someone's overall grappling ability; Neto hasn't been able to put things together that well yet in the ring, and he also got tapped by McCully in under 2 minutes.
I don't know if it can be argued that Struve's grappling game still has some obvious areas where improvement can be made...look at the triangle he used on Sakuragi. I mean, I did LOL when he attempted Brian's brainbuster, but how about pulling down on the shin first? ;)
still young though....so...maybe he can get with a great camp and tighten up his game?
I'd like to see someone with that kind of height throw some Jon Jones' crazy striking out there
Definitely! He already looks to have some good stuff to build on, but I don't know how complete a grasp of grappling he can develop under DIRTY BOB.
WAR Dirty Bob, though! LOL@this:
I always like to see fighters from different countries and backgrounds compete, but they shouldn't rush a guy like Struve by matching him up with a potential highlight reel KO at this stage, at least in my opinion. I don't want to see him become the European Wes Sims, because Wes was another fighter who got pushed into the spotlight early, and - although it was entertaining - probably hurt his career trajectory in the process.
yeah i hope he doesn't get the "two losses and out" treatment....i too like seeing fighters from different backgrounds compete against one another
Vrrrrmmm!
