My grandmother was obsessed with bingo. When I was maybe 8 or so I went with her and win $50. Every old woman in there wanted to kill me. $50 to a young kid in toys r us is like thousands to an adult. I bought a giant fucking raccoon stuffed animal. I'm 31 one and wished I still had it. Damnit.
First time ever in Vegas and first time playing roulette.
The pit boss was walking by and said "I'm feeling 27."
27 just happens to be my lucky number, so I put money down on 27 and won $500.
Got awarded two academic prizes worth $500 each on the same day. Together that was enough money then to pay my rent for about half the semester. But went on a bender immediately after the ceremony and spent most of it.

these HATER CORPS cursed and attacked me during the years of time of economic fear but I never lost confidence what I believe............

That's about it. Still didn't get any scholarships. Except for the automatic one that comes from the state for that and it doesn't cover all that much.
Undergrad: went to community college due to a shitty high school transcript. Ended up with transfer admissions to two Ivy League programs. Both took all of my credits on transfer--I ended up at one of them.
EVERYONE, including professors at my own school told me that it wasn't possible. I went back to visit my high school. I walked around to all the horrible teachers and was like "fuck you... and you... and you..."
A few years later, didn't get into med school the first year. Applied again with a better MCAT score and basically took the keys to the casino. Ended up with a full ride to Mayo Clinic and I turned it down. There are only a handful of places in the country where a sane person turns down Mayo to attend. I ended up at one of them.
