It can definitely add up. But for battle ropes alone, I think I scored a good deal. $140 with shipping included, if I recall. In contrast, if you specifically want 2" battle ropes at 40' long from elsewhere like on Amazon, be prepared to pay $230-270. Glad I didn't order from Amazon.
On the other hand, Onnit's Alpha brain supplement is a tad bit pricey at $34 for a 2 week supply (assuming its taken daily), but people say it's worth it.

I see battle ropes as more of a stamina tool. They sure haven't hurt speed though.
It's for stamina and explosiveness. It has only helped speed in the sense that I wont gas out quite as quickly and can maintain my normal speed when I would otherwise have already become tired and slow if I didn't use them or alternatively, if I didn't work the heavy bag etc.
So really just stamina mostly and explosiveness a bit.
If your worried about paying the money then make your own equipment. You can get old mooring rope from yaght clubs, get a canvas bag fill with sand and do hillclimbs, farmer carry buckets of sand.. Push a car up hill, all free. 
I'm a big Rogan fan, so decided to try Alpha Brain based on his preaching, but to be honest, I've been using for a few months now and can't say they have made any difference to me. Expensive, too.

Where are the people that say alpha brain is worth the money? I'm pretty sure all of the personal accounts I've read on the OG are to the contrary.
