I believe the above post above is about a year old sitting in the archives.Quick update. No more day job.I own a training center called Openmat Fitness Training located within the RexPLex (www.rexplex.com) in Elizabeth NJ. It has about 2700 square feet of mat space, a 16X16 ringside boxing ring, 24 showers and four locker rooms, free parking, a cafe', an Xbox, Dramcast, VCR 32" TV and a colored rotating disco lights ... seriously. If you go to the RexPlex website the class schedule is under Aerobics. I'm spending 70+ hours there a week between teaching a few of the classes, administration, training staff, training and whatevcer else needs to be done. I'm fighting Jan 26th 2002 at the Ultimate Athlete Show in Hammond, Indiana (www.ultimateathlete.tv). The show is called the genesis. I'm going to be testing myself against Jay Buck. Again thanks for the support from everyone who has done so in the past. Check out my new place if your in the NYC or North Jersey Area. Come see me compete if your near Hammond. If you are near Houston, Texas eat a Fajita from one the smaller businesses off FM 1910.

Eddy, did you get to check out that tape I gave you at Kimono Kombat? Learn anything new?

-Nick-(off the subject, I know)

rock on with your bad self, Eddie.

TTT Go Edie!

ttt for Eddy

I give Eddie credit for getting in the ring, but I still don't think he's ready for the UFC. He needs a few more wins in the IFC first.

***Smiles***

There is the joke about not quitting your day job.

In your case Eddie, it's not about the holes in your game or what skills you don't have. It's about what you bring to the game. Your attitude and positive energy are appreciated by readers, fight fans, and fighters alike. Your heart and desire are inspirational to many of us here.

Win or lose, I wanna see you in the UFC.

Post of the year?

Keep training, you'll make it.

very classy post Eddy. Hope to see you in some of the big shows very soon..

I never claim to be on or above anyone's level. I just claim to be willing to compete against anyone. Some of the critics who say I don't belong in the UFC yet brought up some good points. Some were cool about it others almost made me want to lock myself in the bathroom crying. (j/k) I am always willing to be quite honest about my skills or lack of skills. I have more holes in my game than battleship. I expect to be learning more about fighting until I'm dead, 80 or 90 years from now. I'm new to combat sports not just MMA. I never wrestled or boxed or even competed in a TKD tournament my entire life. Zero background until I was inspired by watching the UFC back in 1996. Jan 5th 1998 was the first time I ever trained. Feb 28th 1998 was my first competition, a shootfight (I won over a blue belt by tapout with 1 second left of a 10 minute round). I kept training and competing because I have a deep passion for it. 72 more matches later between MMA, shootfights and grappling in under 3 and half years while being married with a toddler and working until recently full time has made me wonder what my sacrifices will lead to. I'm not a world class striker/wrestler/BJJ/anything. Have I been wasting my time and squandering the sacrifices my wife and family? I have used my desire and calmness coupled with the techniques I have not even close to mastered to occasionally come out on top over some very tough opponents. I frequently have found myself not as strong, not as aggressive, not as technical, not as fast and not as experienced as the guys I have faced. I welcome the challenge and the experience: WIN or LOSE. I do not have the skills or desire to ever look for a win by decision over my opponents. I only look to win by sub or knockout. I think the fans can appreciate that facet about me above all else.I'm in process of making the transition from part-time competitior to full time fighter. My potential as a fighter so far is based on me training between 3 and 6 hours a week. I can only improve with full time training. My wife will work more hours, we will clip more coupons and I will chase down my dream. I'm not the only one making sacrifices for these sports that I believe in. I'm making a big bet on the future of this sport. I'm hoping that we will all be rewarded as the loyal fans(promoters and journalists = fans also) and the dedicated fighters who are shaping the future of combat sports. It's an exciting time for all of us. It doesn't look like the UFC needs me this time around. But I'm always willing to step up. Love me, hate me, pity me, support (or become one of) my sponsors, visit the websites and follow your own dreams as best you can.
