Did anyone hear him say that on the last Inside MMA? They were showing HLs and there was one of someone getting KOd after throwing a lazy jab. He said, "That's right. I never would throw a jab. I will eat my opponent's jab and then rock him with a bomb(s)." Does anyone agree or disagree with this? I'm no expert, but I see plenty of fighters effectively utilizing jabs (i.e. BJ Penn).
Dont throw lazy jabs may be a solution!
Goofy. I understand what he's saying but a jab sets up the bomb.
LOL. Everytime I say that I think of:
I like Bas but sometimes he says some things that make me scratch my head.
PJ Benn Fan - Dont throw lazy jabs may be a solution! That's what I was thinking also. But perhaps he doesn't like doing it because he is afraid one may be thrown lazily out of fatigue (that he can pay for)? I'm just trying to figure that whole thing out.
There is really no reason to throw anything other than haymakers. If a punch can't knock someone out, it's not worth throwing.

Pretty legit thought process.
His own preference.
without knowing which HL he saw and what type of jab was thrown, as a blanket statement I couldn't disagree more with Bas... the jab in MMA can be extremely effective... with the 4 ounce gloves, the jab can end fights... I've seen guys get rocked from jabs, cut up from them, and seen takedowns set up and stuffed with stiff jabs...
I agree with not throwing ANY punch that is lazy and subjective to a counter but the jab is a very under utilized weapon in mma, imo and when it lands with 4 ounce gloves, it is no longer a "jab" as it is in boxing...
...
Bas has always said that jabs are a waste of time in MMA. After watching BJ decimate Sherk, I tend to disagree, but then again, I'm no fighter.

this. compare tim sylvia's one lazy jab against andre arlovski (in their first fight) to anderson silva's opening jabs against chris leben. the jab undoubtedly wins fights if you use it the right way

He didn't mean don't strike with your lead hand, he just meant in MMA you have to load up. That is generally true.
the problem is almost no one throws a proper jab.....
Bas must be smart.

Very sad, but he is making money.

BJ Penn has a beautiful jab. Cain surprised me against Nog with how effective his jab has become.
A lot of guys in MMA, however, do not throw it with bad intentions.
reminds me of the line from League of Extraodinary Gentleman..."if you can't do it with one bullet, don't do it at all"
Kirik -Sure... but you could also argue that the jab is a smart "defensive" tool as well. When you load up in MMA you run a much bigger risk of not being able to defend potential takedowns.JeremyA - Bas doesn't throw lazy jabs. "each jab should be a KO jab, not just a setup" - Bas Rutten

that might be effective for bas' body type and style while guys like bisping do need to utilize an effective jab. guys like bj penn use the jab great and guys like fedor not so much...all about using your attributes.
