Anyone seen them and have reviews? They are sold on www.dogsofwar.net
I guess not.
Maybe if they were on sale and the shipping wasn't so ridiculous I would buy them :(
I haven't actually seen the tapes, but I'm good friends with Batata and
train with him on a daily basis. His use of the loop choke is a great
equalizer in a match for the smaller guy, as he is so damn good with
head control it changes the way you have to approach him. He can use
it to either pull off a quick submission, or he can use the control to
further his position.
Batata also has several unusal angles he can hit them from, in that you
think you're advancing position on him, but you're really being set up
for the choke. I've persoanlly seen him tap people who thought they
were going to take his back with hooks.
Plus in addition to being a friend, Batata is a good instructor who has
definitely helped me elevate my game.
But these are all gi techniques. You can't use them with no gi.
very perceptive Bob & Weave - lol
isn't shipping free mentalmidgit?
my point is I don't care much for gi techniques since you can only use it in sport BJJ.
Batata sounds fun to roll with.
I heard from a BTT guy that Carlson Gracie was really good with these types of chokes.
They are sport techniques, but very cool ones none the less.
"the loop choke is a great equalizer in a match for the smaller guy"
-Gumby is correct.
From what I understand, the tape series is designed for the gi. Rolling
with Batata, I can tell you from first hand experience that his is
personally very adept at utilizing those techniques without a gi as well.
For a lot of the neck cranks and chokes he uses he simply grabs your
chin, again, annoying as hell. He doesn't quite have as many options
as he would with a gi, but he's very dangerous none the less.
BTW- Batata will be making his MMA debut in a few months.
